I was just playing a game on my playstation and the picture turned into a lot of blocks! it is a lot like the old nintendo but with that you just had to blow on the game cartridge.

has anyone else had this happen? and would a warranty cover that?

ive had it for about a year and a half.

what will i do without my playstation:D

I had mine for a while, probably about the same as you. (don't feel like thinking.) It freezes a couple of times, but only a couple in the whole time I've had it. Never any blocks. I usually am either on the computer, watching TV, or playing the PS2, so I wouldn't know what to do.

    Sorry to hear that,btw.

    Speaking of broken playstations...

I was trying to clean mine out, with a ball of cotton, when the disc tray snapped shut on me, sucking the cotton ball inside. I forgot to turn the power off :(

Now the tray won't open...and GTA3 is trapped inside. The playstation still turns on, but it doesn't acknowledge that there's a cd in the tray.

Anybody know the best way to get this thing fixed, apart from breaking it open myself (I don't want to screw it up anymore than I already have)?

One of the most common problems with the PS2 is that in some units after a while it will not play DVD games anymore. I think it is a problem with the decoder. I don't know if this helps you or not.

The factory warranty is I think 90 days or so. If you bought the extended warranty it should cover it.

Hook it up to a TV with AV inputs. My guess is that you have it connected through a VCR. It does that on purpose to prevent copying from DVD to VCR. The weird thing is that I have my Xbox connected through a VCR and view DVDs just fine.

It's actually connected directly to the TV.

Weird, do you have one of the first PS2s that came out? I heard that alot of them had DVD playback issues. The issues were corrected after about the 2nd or 3rd shipments.

I have 2 solutions to all of you guys' problems:

    1. Send it back to sony along with 50 bucks or so and tell em to fix it.

    2. Buy an xbox! Never had any probs with mine other than that damn problem they had with the cd readers. But they fixed it for free and gave me like a free controller a free hat and a bunch of other crap:rolleyes:

I could do 2, but there are some games only on the PS2, and I like most of them. I could get an X-BOX, but there aren't many games I'd die without or isn't on both. But that's just me.

why not get them both... pretty much everyone i know has done that... i'm not too much into video games anymore, so i didn't bother with the xbox... i have a PS2, but its barely touched and collects dust. i only bought it b/c i had an itch to play Madden 2002 last year... played for 3 weeks and never touched it again.

Sorry, I forgot I'm rich!

I, or I should say my family, can't afford 2 game consoles, especially since I'll probably get another one in 2 or 3 years. I guess we could, but we should put money into something else. If I was older and had a job, I probably could, though.

I kind of thought that. But I couldn't resist putting my anti-rich people post on. Or anti-peoplewithjobs post. I don't know which.

I just got it in like mid to late June. It will play new DVD's(As in made recently, not bought...Anything released after about May or so), but any other DVD(For example, a brand new copy of Dogma) will not work.

I've called Sony, and they gave me two suggestions:
    1. Get a new cable...Didn't buy a new one, but borrowed one from my cousins' PS2...didn't work(Of course their PS2 does the same thing. :)). I will probably buy a new one and see how it works out.

    2. Try it on a Sony TV...This one I just didn't try because we only have one Sony TV, and I don't want to move my PS2 there, and don't plan on buying a brand new TV.

My Panasonic DVD player does the same thing. This may be because the DVD player is so old...One of the first models to come out.

I have a PS2 and Xbox. I have to admit that I dig the PS2 so far because the game selection is better. But Halo was pretty damn cool. However, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil Online, and Metal Gear are PS only....and they rock. (well RE Online I expect to)

Never had a problem with PS2, although I dont use it for DVDs.
