How would you rate the Rockets on Player Development? I wonder if some of our draft picks are BUSTs . . . or just not properly trained/developed into NBA Players or not enough opportunity or what? Those that 'come out of nowhere' . . are they proof of player development or just d*mn hard working players or better than we thought? Rocket River
rockets have had a good history of developing players. aaron brooks, luis scola, kyle lowry all developed well. chase budinger and chandler parsons seemed to begin developing
Mchale ability to develop - 6/10 so far. Training staff 5/10 Rick 8/10 with rookies Jvg 8/10 no rookies though Hakeem 8.5/10
False Lowry didnt develope until Brooks got hurt. Brooks didnt develop until forced to play via RA trade. Lol, Chase to me is what he is, a shooter who remained that, a shooter. what did Scola develop? He still doesnt play defense (only to play a tiny bit after KMcHales entrance) and his offense is what it was a couple years ago. He was already a good international player???? No development, he was already good. He needs to develop more defense.
Impossible to rate. Rockets pretty much completely changed their coaching staff before last season. No real training camp. Two pre-season games. Shortened season. Small sample size.
It is not just this year but in general. This goes beyond the McHale years Some organizations seem to constantly find diamonds in the rough I wonder is it because their scouting is so good. . or do they find a guy and make them into something Good Question. I have long thought our medical staff has been very suspect. Rocket River
This is a difficult thing to rate. We don't see what goes on behind the scenes. When a young player either does well or fails to make progress, we don't really know to give credit or blame to the coaching staff or the individual player. All we really see is what happens on the court. We have had young players do well, and we have had players make no progress at all. However, I will say this. I don't automatically assume that McHale can teach young players how to play in the low post. Just because McHale was a good low post player doesn't mean he can teach other people how to play that position. I'm sure there have been some great players who are terrible teachers. You would think McHale would be a good teacher, but I'm not sure about that.
