I noticed this article in the nba dish.

Former NBA stars will tutor Nuggets
By Chris Tomasson, Rocky Mountain News
    May 7, 2003

Before the Denver Nuggets conduct workouts this summer, they might need to have autograph sessions.
The Nuggets are bringing in several former NBA stars to work with the team's many young players at the Pepsi Center. It will be a Woodstock of basketball.
Coming in for a month will be potential Hall of Famer Adrian Dantley. Arriving for stints of three to four days will be likely Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler, a special assistant for the Nuggets; Mark Price, the NBA's all-time leading free-throw shooter; former NBA stars Reggie Theus, Dan Majerle and Fat Lever, a former Nuggets player; and longtime role player Scott Brooks.
"We want to be known as an organization that will spare no expense to help develop young talent," Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe said.
The former players will begin arriving in two weeks for the workouts, which will continue through August. Nuggets who expect to be on hand for all of or some of the sessions include Rodney White, Nene Hilario, Junior Harrington, Vincent Yar- brough, Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Chris Andersen, Predrag Savovic, Jeff Trepagnier and Adam Harrington.
Several of the young Nuggets have returned this week after taking vacations, and nearly all are expected back within two weeks. Before the former NBA players start trickling in, the Nuggets primarily will work with the team's coaches and engage in weightlifting and conditioning programs.
The former players will work with the Nuggets in areas regarding their specialties. Price will address shooting; Dantley will show off post moves.
"They will share techniques that helped them become successful," Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik said.
No word yet on whether Drexler will provide pointers on dunking.

It seems like a lot of teams that have young players would do this more often including the Rockets. It would be nice and beneficial to bring in Kareem for Ming,Larry Nance to help a guy like Eddie Griffin, John Lucas for Francis and the other pg's, and someone like Eddie Johnson for the Mobley and the sf. They don't have to be known as great players, but those guys had good careers. Alot of these players are itching to get back in the nba in some capacity and help pass the knowledge along. This is what the nuggets are doing and this is what Dallas has been doing since Nelsons arrival. I think and hope its something that could help the Rockets.

Yeah...this is in NBA Dish forum too....

    But we need mentors!

And a coach like Van Chancellor who can convince players to come here.

I don't know.....I don't think the Rockets are doin anything.

The Nuggets have a bright future. A lot of youth....

Dallas too. Why can't we be like Dallas? :)

We should bring in Mitchell Wiggins to teach them how to snort lines. Lewis Lloyd could show them the proper doobie rolling technique.

Its the way with all the young players are going to need guys like this to help them. There are alot of players who come in without a clue on how to be a nba player because they're used to being the man. When they get to the nba and find out everyone is good, you find guys who never improve or some who just don't want to. There are more than enough older payers who would love to teach the younger players somethings they use or some shots they shot. Like I said, this is knowledge tha shouldn't be wasted. Iceman taught Marbury the floater, Mark Aguirre taught O'Neal alot of his post movements. To ay these guys can't teach the rockets players anything is a joke. Even if Kareem didn't want to help Ming, there are guys like Brad Daughtery who play very similar to Ming who was physical some and finesse some that could help Ming. Kiki did a lot to help Clyde in his youth even though they drafted Clyde to take his position. I hear Kobe talk all the time how Byron Scott taught him alot on being a pro and being ready. Who do the Rockets have? Glen Rice and that it. Everyone else is too young and are trying to get their own thing together.

    I know......we need teachers.

But the players have to be motivated and want to improve.

    *cough* EDDIE!!!!!!!!!!

    It is pretty simple...

    oh well.

Eddie Johnson would be a nice mentor.

    But he's a SUN now!

    Traitor!

Rockets desperately need this. There are so many options. So many who want to teach...so few who want to learn.

Of course not being all scared and weak inside and losing to the Kings all day and not being for real and being all well sad.

But I like the abundance of coaches and good players...and good fans.....and nice arena......and support from the city....and good facilities......and coaching!!!!!!!!!

Eddie Griffin. Let's see. Development process. -10%!!!!! That is his rate. is stats like decreased.

    Cato....more efficient....all right.

    Tito Maddox....never got to play.

    Bostjan Nachbar....never got to play.

    Juaquin Hawk....never go to play.

This is a dandy way to develop players.

Unlike Spurs...who are even contenders.....even let their youngsters play and oldies teach.

While we don't even make the playoffs but still let our stars play 42 minutes a game to retire early.

I still love the Rockets no matter what!!!!!

I agree with you there. One example...I don't understand why Nachbar didn't start the last game? I mean it didn't mean anything, why was he even activated?

I agree, I really wanted him to play. They play Ginobli etc, and other young and new players, How come we dont play our European star? BOKI.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Boki was stuck on the bench all of next season as well. Rudy's ass is on the hot seat and everyone knows it. If this team doesn't make the postseason next year, he's done. Hell, it's possible he may not survive through the All-Star break if they're playing below .500.

That being the case, the man's obviously gonna go with his most skilled and experienced players to give him the best shot at winning. That's pretty much what he did this past season, resulting in Mobley and Francis being among the league leaders in minutes played. And if you don't believe me, remember how Yao didn't move into the starting lineup until Cato's grandmother died, despite putting up back-to-back dominant performances against L.A. and Dallas?

Then of course there's also the fact that Rudy is unable to develop young players. Oh sure, he can make them into solid spot-up shooters(i.e. Horry, Cassell, and Maloney), but that's about it. Which is why he's desperate to sign or trade for some veterans this offseason. That way he can let them worry about teaching the youngsters.

Rockets standard of Coaching and coaches is very low. They rely on Rudy T for everything, his Assistants are trainee Coaches and are worthless as mentors for our young players. If they turn over the leadership to the likes of Larry Smith then their standards are indeed low. When Ralph, Hakeem, Moses and Bill Russell offer to help Yao Ming with his game( He realy needs help) and the Rockets do nothing about it. How can you expect the Rockets to be as forward thinking like Denver?
By the way the Rockets shouldn't be like any other team, only like themselves!
