Channel 2 just displayed a graph showing that most everyone north of the city of Houston should expect around 80mph winds with a cat 4 storm. I'll be in hunkering down now with the parents in Pasadena. This should be thrilling.
My parents want me to come up to their house in Cypress. But I just bought my house and I feel a duty/responsibility to see any potential problems/damage all the way through. Its times like these that I miss having an apartment, where I didn't give a flying freak about damage. I could just call the landlord and say "fix my roof!!!"
Nope. I believe they showed around 100mph sustained winds there if it stays on it's current path. We've got everything we need for life after power and I'm stocked on beers. My company partners with HL & P/Centerpoint before/during/after emergency situations in the Houston area, so I've gotta find a way to work once the storm passes. Our company is basically first in line for restored power (along with emergency services) since we supply a lot of the material they need, so I'll be canoeing my way down I-10 since I'm pretty sure you guys will want your power back. Greedy Houstonians.
Be safe guys.... My parents are leaving out of Katy tommorw. I think Katy will be relatively alright from what I've been reading on this board and from what I remember where I lived there. But they are taking my grandparents out of town they dont feel they can take care of themselves if the power goes down for long periods of time. Not to mention their house is a very small house that is probaly close to 70 years old... I'd suggest anybody with elderly parents/friends to do the same if they lose power for even a few days in the middle of September it could be real dangerous... My plans are probaly going to watch this thing 24/7 even on a weekend here in Lubbock....
My ex lives in Stinkadena and they'll be leaving...My kids will come up with my mom to Dallas and one of my good friends is coming up to Dallas with his wife and kid...My dad works for Centerpoint and be stuck like Chuck... IMO, I don't think it'll be that bad...My reasoning is that when they always say its going to hit the Houston area, it never does...Wishful thinking I guess, but the evacuation is alittle premature...Hopeful I'm not wrong...Good luck to anyone riding it out...
I'm in the Lake Jackson area and will be leaving Thursday to head up to Jacksonville to stay with my parents. Hopefully there'll still be a house when I get back.
Damn. There are four big ass pine trees right in front of my house, I guess they'll be INSIDE my house on Saturday morning. This sucks.
We live in west Houston and my wife and I are seriously considering going to Nebraska, where my in-laws are....the problem is my family is in Deer Park and I don't want to abondon them. I'm not worried so much about the storm damage, I'd just rather not deal without electricity for days if I can avoid it.
We just decided once we find out about our work situation, we're driving up to Kansas for the same reason. Plus, her cousin is a pre-season, first team all-state LB and we were wanting to go see him play anyway.

You know, I understand folks buying lots of water who live in flood-prone areas, but why would you do it if you never flood? The reason to buy water is that you either: a. Expect the water system to stop working. b. Expect that the water system will be contaminated. If you don't expect to flood, it is likely that neither of those will happen.
