Now that Orlando has won the lotto they were leading anyway, this Board's trade of SF for TMac is cooled. There is no reason to believe that TMac feels any differently today, in fact it might make opting out EASIER as there is 'hope' riding in to town. Alternatively there are many scenarios in which I could see SF being traded, and as much as I like the guy, I believe he will be repost officed for next season. One is the Brand deal, again being discussed in the BBS (and brought forth by me before it was written about in the Chronicle). A second is the LOSER of Detroit - Indy, seemingly destined to be Indy. They were best in regular season but exposed in Miami and Detroit. They cannot score. SF might be the centerpiece of an interesting deal here, or 'dre might. Look for one of them to be discussed in Indy. (Should Detroit suddenly fizzle remember Larry Brown is the great tinkerer. They might feel getting 'something' for Okur (+ Billups) might interest Rox???) Another is the Nets. Kidd needs help. He cannot continue to shoulder all that he has without continuing to break down, as he has. SF to alleviate some, play 2 some and free themselves of KMart? Just a thought. Or Kiki calling about swapping points (he wants to run, SF wants to run, 'dre and JVG don't) with maybe Camby heading to Rox. I wouldn't ignore Boston starting some 'big trade talk' starting with Pierce, or Portland (SAR +), or Atlanta after they deal with Clips for #2 pick. How about the ironic trade of buddy NVE + + for SF? Any of these teams could and probably do have varying desire levels to add the Three Time All Star guard, as voted by the F-A-N-S, to their roster. Can 'both' teams add the pieces to augment the deal and make it work? Or will Stevie be MagicMan '04- '09?
Where did you get this idea from. I don't recall seing SF push the ball up the court much. I do recall seeing JVG urging him to push the ball up the court all season long.
I think we'll sign Van Exel outright anyway. To me that's more likely than getting Barry. He's already gone from Golden State, he wants to come back to a good Texas team, he lives here, we need minutes at the pg next year more than likely, it just fits.
NVE is a smarter but older/less-athletic version of Steve Francis. He is also a score-first pass second-kind of PG. But he can lead a much better fastbreak. I'm not sure if he is the long term answer if we want to build around Yao. But if we do trade Francis for Brand and sign NVE, that'll be a pretty good team. We can then trade Taylor for a good backup PG. NVE/good veteran backup Mobley/JJ/Pike JJ/Boki/Pike Brand/Cato/Spoon or Padgett Yao/Cato
This is just not true. I'm not sure why its always repeated. Watch a rockets game, JVG continues to yell at his guys motioning them to push the ball, it's not his fault our guys can't convert a 3 on 1 fast break.
Look, when Van Gundy wants them to really push the basketball, they will push the basketball. Until then, they won't. You think this coach is a wimp or something?
I think NVE can be a great fit. The problem with Steve is that when Steve loses a lot of what he can do by making him adjust to JVG's system. NVE won't have this problem, because he's not going to be the main option on the team, and won't be expected to shoulder the burden in the way Francis has been.
NVE has another year @12 mil or so, with an opt out clause. If he were d-u-m enough to otp out of that for MLE -- or less! -- then is he smart enough to be your PG?
Money dumb doesn't always means basketball dumb. Moochie would be a very smart PG because he was smart enough to get a fat contract from the Rockets.
I honestly would rather have Steve than Nick Van Exel. I like him coming off the bench for an offensive spark rather than a starting point guard.
NVE's arrival has to be with a n asset of theirs and a nonasset of ours to balance the equation. Like Murphy and Spoon?
T-Mac is just as likely to opt out, unless they're able to get something great for their pick. If they keep the pick and draft a rookie, T-Mac won't be happy. However, I'm thinking they will deal with Golden State for Dampier. Probably something like Dampier and Troy Murphy for Declerq, Juwan Howard and the #1 pick? That would be a tremendous deal for both sides. Dampier Troy Murphy Gran Hill/Pat Garritty/Keith Bogans T-Mac Lue Solid if you ask me, T-Mac could lead that team to a high seed in the East easily.
Why not? Damp is gone. Warriors are trying to rebuild - what better way than adding Okafor to their nucleus of Dunleavy and Richardson? Oh, if you mean the numbers, then yeah, they're probably way off. Juwan and Declerq probably make aroudn 7M combined or so.
NVE isn't a free agent until after next season. I can't believe people are still confused by that article in which he claimed he wanted to head back to texas after his contract expired. His contract doesn't expire until the end of next season.
I don't see why not. For the best C in the East and a young PF who can grab his own 10 rebounds, while having range almost out to the 3-pt line? Emeka Okafor is damn godo, but there's still risk involved because he's a rookie, and he has back problems. Same team as last year, add Garritty, 20mpg of Grant Hill, Dampier, Troy Murphy, remove Juwan Howard. Solid team. Do Golden State have a pick to throw in?
I agree that Orlando has options. I believe that there will be more #1s traded 'at' this Draft than EVER before, with lots of bad contracts to 'sweeten' deals.
