Yes, this album is like pure white light. I want to see them play this live, start to finish, with no stop between songs. And they are dressed like Druids.

im not disagreeing that most artists make more money touring (especially these days), but in the case of that one song it was a one-in-a-million smash hit that was everywhere during the 90's. the pixies were not much more than a cult/critical favorite - i dont think they made alot of money back in the day - they were not playing big venues like they do now - i think they played the vatican before they broke up and that place was maybe 500 capacity. and the rest of the band certainly wasnt getting much in terms of residuals or their drummer would not have been talking about how he was broke and in and out of jail before the reunions.

i stand by my initial comment that kim deal probably made more $$$ off cannonball than the pixies did during their entire career (85-92).

Yeah, except we were discussing whether she made more off the song or off these reunion tours, though you did clarify later.

    Your initial comment
    then

    Then you clarify
So I still stand by my actual initial comment too. And I still disagree (though without knowing her contract it's hard to say definitively) in that I bet she didn't make that much off of sales of Cannonball. Now if you're talking touring, maybe, but I bet it's still behind the pixies if you're considering reunion tour when counting what they made. If not , well sure.

Not trying to argue, just clarifying.
Otherwise agreed. Cannonball was a bigger hit than the Pixies ever had.

Did I mention the shows were great?

Not yet, waiting anxiously. voodoopope says he's got some good video but the audio is marginal, so thinking he'll swap the audio tracks and see how that looks/sounds. Hope the links come soon. Odd they were really pushing the "buy the CD of this show" but I guess only people who got it through the fanclub or pixiesmusic.com get the free recording?

i should have been more clear in my initial post, but as i was speaking in past tense regarding the pixies i assumed people would know i was talking about their original run - not the reunion shows, which of course have made them a ton of money (deservedly so).

last splash went platinum w/in a year of its release (see wiki quote below). that cannonball song was all over the tv, movies, commercials and radio for a good chunk of the 90's. 99.99999% of bands would kill to have a song that had that kind of run. and yes, generally artists on major labels dont make money off albums, unless they score a hit like cannonball - i guarantee you kim deal became a millionaire off that one tune.

EDIT: found this interview w/ kelly deal which backs me up...
none of the pixies albums sold very well while they were active - doolittle didnt even go gold till 95, 4 years after they had broken up.
for the record, i was not a fan of last splash - i loved pod and the safari ep - but they lost something after that - i call it the tanya donnelly effect. not really a fan of her solo/belly stuff, but the breeders as well as throwing muses did their best work w/ her in the band.

i got emailed the tuesday show even though i went to the wednesday one. it sounded great, but later in the day they resent it saying the first was messed up. i dont think im in the fanclub or anything and i didnt fork over $25 for the cd - i might have bought my ticket through their website and been automatically enrolled in the fan club? either way, ive also got the coachella set from 04 and this one sounds way better.

I dunno, jo, you're all over the map. I don't wanna pick it apart. I think we agree on most points.

Got both shows recordings now, and they are both very good.

I'm surprised no one mentioned how they felt about the set being awfully rehearsed, looking back. That whole "I'm going to bed after this, so if I don't see you..." bit. They did it in Houston, and both shows in Austin. I know shows are hard work and getting it to a routine is probably a good thing, but I thought the proposedly casual banter being repeated at every show was a bit much. To be honest, it seemed like everyone else did too... except maybe Kim and Dave.

Anyway, the shows were too good for it to come up before now, I suppose, but I thought it was unnecessarily cheezy.

    how so? please explain/pick apart.

i do think we agree on most points - i really dont know what you have been arguing w/ me about. if you go back and read my first post the sentence right before the one you earlier quoted was thus...

as you can see, i was clearly referring to their original run. i really dont know why this was such a controversial statement for you.

care to retract this statement? :)
