bobrek, I could understand it if you had a Prior v. Clemens matchup, where you KNEW runs would be hard to come by. But in last nights game, the odds were high that Munro was not going to shutout the Pirates or hold them to only a run or two (Buckos offense is good this year) and the odds were high that the Astros could have/would have put together a big inning against Vogelsong. They might as well put the pitcher in the #2 hole from now on. Everett has been a good lil slap hitter this year. Play for the big inning every so often Jimy!!
Sometimes the only time you will get to Prior or other great pitchers is the early inning where they are not yet sure what pitches will work, when they are not yet comfortable with the mound or their mechanics. I just hate giving up outs in the early innings. I would rather see them work a hit and run or, if they are bound and determined to bunt, have Everett try and bunt for a hit. More often than not, he is clearly in a sacrifice stance. At the very least give him the first strike to try and get a hit and start a big inning.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=neel/040624 Eric Neel on ESPN Page 2 still picks the 'Stros to win the central even being 5 games back. It's nice to see that someone still has some confidence in our boys. Let's hope they start the comeback tonight with Roger on the Mound!
Im with you codell and I've said it before. I don't mind them using the first out bunt to sacrifice in the mid-late innings of a close game, but I feel it really takes the wind out from under you when you give an out like that just to get a base in the first inning. Let Adam swing away and there's a decent chance he can still move him over to second with an out anyway.
Daaarr--rryllll!! Anybody remember that? (Hint: It wasn't Ward...codell, Finn, bobrek, I know y'all know) Double play!
WOW. I feel much more comfortable watching Lidge than watching Dotel. One more strike....COme on! 2 outs. 1 run game. top of 9th. GO LIDGE!!! EDIT: STRIKE OUT!!! GO LIDGE! OUR NEW CLOSER!!!!
