definitely posey. pike would be a nice pickup but posey is essential to our team. we need his defence and hustle.
Under JVG, I'm more concerned about offense than defense. Pike is a much better offensive player than Posey. But is he starter material? If Boki was ready to start, I'd be much more comfortable to let Posey go. After DoD's report on Boki's performance in the SPL, I am kinda worried--unless they are planning on bringing in someone else to strengthen the SF spot.
I'd sign Pike bring back Terrance Morris to defend small forwards let Van Gundy get on Mobley for defending shooting guards and hope Nachbar pans out. I still think our worst defensive position is the power forward position they make Yao do too much and do not stick up for him when someone is going strong in the paint.
I don't want Posey to leave. He's a good slashing/running SF. But Les's view is that we need shooters. I think that's why we trying to get Pike. Besides, there's only one ball to go around, so most of the shots will go through, Yao and Francis. So, it's nice to have a guy that that hit the 3 consistently, as opposed to have a guy running or slashing. We already have that with Francis and Mobley. Pike gives us that 3 point threat. Plus, he's not bad at handling the ball either. Although not as athletic as Posey.
Anybody getting the feeling that mingonly, withmustard, and wink2moochie are all the same person? They keep bringing up race as if that's the only reason why we're letting posey go, why we want pike, etc...
He always does that. He admitted as much a few weeks ago when he was logged on to a different moniker. Someone called him a "newbie" or something like that, so he logged on as mingonly to show the guy he wasn't a "newbie" after all.... At any rate, he's on my ignore list now.
I just see it this way... If: We lose Posey and add Pike with Rice and Boki.. Who starts? All can shoot but none of the three can defend some or most of the SF's in the Western Conference like Kobe, Odom, Dirk, Peja, Lewis, Rodmanovic, Sczerbiak....etc... If: We keep Posey and add no one else we still have Rice and Boki that are supposed to be able to shoot... I vote to keep Posey for his defensive abilities and guys the one thing that I really look at is Glenn Rice... I'm pretty sure that we hold on to him until the all star break when some teams flop and want to take on big contracts... Are willing to give up a player that can help, plus we will probably want to drop another player along the way EG or Taylor(one of these guys won't be here much longer)... Well to me its obvious... I don't think we will make a move until the middle of the season(all star break/trade deadline)... This is when you can make a move for a good player, especially when a team is trying to add players in their last season so they can have room to make moves the next offseason... I say keep Posey and go with the team we have and wait and see approach... I know it sucks but our best chance to keep moving in the right direction is going with our team of last season(well at least the top 10 players)... I like Pike but all he does is make us a worse defensive team than we were last season... I'm all about defense and if you can't play it then that player really doesn't help... Posey plays D and can shoot, he's a keeper... I would be shocked if we don't keep him... If not I'd rather take a shot at Stephen Jackson...
I'd rather have Posey, but it's not worth possibly going over the luxury tax threshold to keep him. Defense wasn't as big of a problem for us as perimeter shooting, either, and while Posey may have improved once he started going to set shots vs. jump shots, he still wasn't spectacular, and certainly isn't as good as Piatkowski. Piatkowskis may be a dime a dozen, but so are Poseys, so chalk me up on passing on Posey - if the Memphis deal is a big as speculated.
