I imagine they are both asking for about the same amount. I know technically we can sign both of them since we own posey's bird rights but realistically we can't because we don't want to be that far into luxury territory. If we don't match Posey's contract we probably can spend enough to get Pike. What would you do if you were Dawson?

It's easy for me, since I don't like Posey that much. I think he is a rich man's hawkins where Pike brings something we desperately need which is consistent outside shooting. If you look at the last 2 years, we seldomly loss when Walt, Rice, or Posey was hitting from outside.

Definitely Pike. Get someone who can make teams pay for doubling down our guys or playing zone. You can't get much better of a 3pt shooter than that.

Oh yeah, I couldn't agree more!! I'd take Pike over Posey anyday, and if anything Pike wants a little less the Posey, so I say take pike all the way. Also it's the best way to capitalize on Yao, in the past (to capitalize on Dream) we've had guys such as Elie, Cassel, Bullard, and Horry, you need good spot up shooters, and finally we've found one that we know isn't over rated. :)

Definitely Pike. Gotta make them pay for doubling or zones. And Pike can do it lickety split. I only have reservations due to his defense. I'm sure he's decent though and we can teach him to funnel into Yao like they teach steve kerr and company to funnel people into Duncan :).

Yep, Pike for me too. For the same reasons Biggiestuff just listed.

Maybe that's been the Rockets plan all along............

I dont get it, you are wanting a 3 point shooter, yet you said if one of these 3 guys hits then we usually win, so why not just keep 2 of the 3 your talking about

Didn't posey sign the offer sheet from the Grizz. That was for about 4-5 mill per year. I think Pike is looking at about half of that. I could live with Pike for 2-4 years at 2-3 mill.

Now if we could get Barry for that amount, then we need to make the offer.

Because none of those guys were consistent. They would have "off" night as often as they would have "on" nights which would explain why our record was around .500 for the last 3 seasons.

    Dennis,

Here is an part of an article posted by Pat in another thread.

    http://www.gomemphis.com/mca/grizzl...2128741,00.html

    Grizzlies pick free agent Posey
    Added: 23rd July, 2003 8:03 AM ET

It is believed that the Griz offered Posey more than half ($3-$3.2 million for the first year) of their $4.9 million midlevel exception.

The Rockets made Posey a qualifying offer starting at $2.445 million.

Those were the 3 main points of the article.

    1. Posey signed the offer sheet this morning at 8am

    2. The Grizz did not get close to the full 4.9 exception.

    3. The Rockets are only about a half a million off of what the Grizz offered.

Would you still prefer Pike? I personally would like to have Pike on the team but I think Posey is more important. Actually if we can get Posey at 3mil this year and Pike at 1.5 I think it would be crazy not to do sign both.

    there ya go ...

Grizzlies are not offering Posey much more than the ROckets did, therefore we could match it, and still sign Pike for the minimum, he is going to get a fat contract anywhere else.

Posey can play defense, and we need someone to guard the bigger 2's and smaller 3's....

I doubt Pike would sign for 1.5 million. If he would then he would have been signed by now regardless of what we do with Posey. There are plenty of teams that need shooters including LA and SA that would gladly pay him that much to join their team. You have to remember, this will probably be Pike's last contract so he is looking to make some money.

I'd rather have Posey, better defender and he's younger, not to mention that after he changed his shot he became a much better outside shooter. I'd love Piatkowski, but I think that Posey helps the team more. Here's hoping that Les gives the okay and we can dish out three years nine million to Piatkowski as well.

Posey is the type of big, strong, athletic defender you need to guard guys like Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, and Latrell Sprewell. It would be stupid for the Rockets to give that up for a 3pt shooter, athletic wing players are going to destroy us. Unbelieveably stupid on the Rockets part, if it's to save money then it's a bigger joke. We spent all this time needing an athletic, defensive wing player, and we get one who is also a reasonably good scorer and rebounder, and we give him up for a 3pt specialist!? Unreal.

Okay in all seriousness. Those that want Piak more are nothing but racist. If Posey was white he would be the fan favorite(hum like Boki maybe?) but everyone is obsessed with Piak. God what morons.

Probably the same posters that begged to resign Moochie and Taylor and Cato. Its all your faults guys. Management doesnt want to piss off fans,so if all the fans love Moochie and Boki and Taylor and Piak,so be it.

Dont get mad when they suck unless you like me have stated in advance what a horrendous mistake this is.

Be prepared to see JVG have this team average 60 points a game like his sorry ass boring Knicks. A leopard cant change its stripes. I posted before he was hired it was a mistake, and I was right. Mike Dunleavy is going to have his clippers running and gunning and will in fact end up with a better record than this team.

Imagine if Mobley gets injured(which he always has these mysterious ankle problems every year) your looking at:

    francis
    piakowski
    boki
    griffin
    ming

Yeah, I see a championship coming.

Note to Ming: just 3 more years left buddy then you can leave to Dallas or lakers so that you can finally get a ring

mingonly, comments like this make you look like an idiot.

Racism... how much lower can u stoop to make an excuse.

I like Posey better, and i like Piakowski as well, it has nothing to do with racism.

and your comments about Yao Ming are ridiculous in their own right. Obviously you don't know what your talking about.

Racists??? Maybe you are overreacting just a lil bit .........

Thats right. Management does EVERYTHING the fans want.

How are you right? We haven't even played a game yet. lol

Are you willing to put money on that?

Who said we were championship contenders even with Posey. Geez. We are just trying to make the playoffs, not knock off the Spurs.

If Yao leaves for Dallas or LA, do you promise to follow him? ;)

Maybe they signed Posey for about 3-3.2 million the first year but maybe it's a long term deal that the Rockets don't want to pick up.

Posey's thuggery in the Mavs game never sat well with me. We don't need that crap. Outside shooting is key.

Cuttino can guard all those guys. Rick Fox, Sczerbiak, and Rashard Lewis aren't hard to guard. They're all spot-up shooters. Defense starts on the frontline.
