I hope a lot of people break out the black spray paint on these things. If not, then I'll get the iPhone app that alerts me any time I'm approaching one. I'm sure law enforcement would love to enforce every law in their book if they had a corresponding device to do it with. Maybe we can replace the actual police with robots while we are at it? Well...some day maybe. I've never heard of any of these devices being vandalized. I'm sure the penalty for it would be quite extreme. But, that doesn't stop me from thinking about it.
1. Law Enforcement getting lazier and lazier 2. Law Enforcement getting more and more invasive 3. d*mn another job lost to automation 4. MONEY GRAB MONEY GRAB MONEY GRAB! Rocket River
its a money grab, just like the red light cameras. You are every city councils model citizen, just hand over you money happily
Are you kidding?!? They City of Houston has collected $21.4 million from red light cameras alone. Lawyers hope Ruling Ends Houston Red-Light Cameras ...“What this lawsuit will end up doing with the release of these documents, it will help prove once and for all what the red-light camera program is all about. It's about revenue,”
I got one in New Mexico for going 5 over. There was another guy paying a ticket for going 40 over. I felt slighted, to say the least.
So great.....now cops don't even have to sit their lazy asses on the side of the road to extort money out of us? This is blatant theft. They're literally stealing your hard earned money for what? Going 5 or 10 mph over the speed limit?? And now, you can't even explain your situation to an actual human, who might give you leniency. They might as well turn you upside down, and empty your pockets.
I guess Houston's is working a lot better than Dallas'. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcon...dlights_15met.ART.North.Edition1.468120d.html
What's wrong with public safety. If those red light camera's deter at least one person from running a red light and plowing into some innocent individual it is well worth it. That being said, I'm not as big of a fan of speeding camera's since speeding isn't what usually causes an accident on a highway. Usually its people driving under the speed limit, drunk driving, road rage, and distracted driving the cause of accidents. A driver going fast is usually very aware of his surroundings.
People b**** about Cops pulling people over for speeding instead of "protecting". Now people are b****ing over a gadget that allows cops to do more stuff with their time other than sitting on the side of a road with a radar gun. Perhaps, it frees them up to take care of more crime? Maybe maybe no?
you really believe that this frees them up to do other things. They are still handing out tickets, the cameras are just a second source. At least thats how it is in austin. And as far as public safety, that is bs. I got a red light camera ticket while visiting houston a few months ago. Kind of did a slow rolling stop right turn. Something a cop would never issue a ticket for. Sure enough, I got a ticket. easy $75 for Houston gov and they can say they didn't have to raise taxes to get it.
Honestly, I believe it would if these things really were implemented. But if they are just placed sparsely around cities....then ya, cops will still be out and about ticketing people. I don't know, atleast it keeps them from major areas. One major plus might be that if you are "caught" speeding, you won't have to be on the shoulder of a road, which can be a death trap.
whats ironic is there was a story in the chronicle the other week about the city of houston trying to get out of the tickets that their employees racked up. they were trying to use the argument that the driver of the car is on the hook for the fine, not the owner. They don't let citizens use that argument, ticket is mailed to the owner.
Man, they had these in Germany when I was a kid 20+ years ago. Of course, those were mounted on tripods and could be moved so that you could never be quite certain of where they were going to be posted...
I wonder about this, too. If you let a friend borrow your car, then said friend gets a fine, they just charge YOU for it?? Doesn't seem fair at all....
