If you want to compare modern phobias to ones we had a year ago, check out: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15033&highlight=phobi*
I hate being in overcrowded places. I live in Idaho and there is a reason for that, but still it has its problems. I have taken Walmart off my places to shop list. that place is always crowded and gives me the creeps. I also dislike flying, and since 9-11 its only gotten worse. When I was a kid I loved to fly, we did it about 6 times a year. Now I only want to do it 2 times max and i wouldnt mind never flying again. A freind of mine is freaked out by clowns, I dont know why. So he goes out and buys a shirt with the picture of the clown from IT. He wears that shirt all the time, thinks it will help him get over his phobia I think we should all try that, if you are closterphobic you should lock yourself in a coffin, ( prefferably empty) that will take care of that
I guess mine are closest to Surfguy's; a little claustrophobia and crowd-phobia. I have trouble having a good time at crowded concerts and sports events (the latter are OK once you're in your seat). I don't particularly enjoy standing in long lines, especially when the person behinds me stands right in my personal space. For me, it's not the length of the line so much as whether or not it's moving. Also, I refuse to do some things, like exploring caves where you have to crawl through a tiny little space. I'll go in more developed caves, but I'm always glad when it's over. I'm afraid of those water slides that are all enclosed, because you can't see where you're going (and I'm afraid I might get stuck). I'm also afraid of driving in the rain (somehow I tend to skid a lot). Or: on crowded freeways where people are driving like idiots and not maintaining a proper following distance. Or where you get boxed in by 18-wheelers.
If the line is moving, then I don't typically have a problem. I always end up in a long line where something goes wrong...like "PRICE CHECK ON AISLE 4" meaning "DELAY LINE FOR ANOTHER 5 MINUTES". Grocery stores always have specials or sales but the items are never entered into their systems correctly for the special or sale . Kind of defeats the purpose if you add inconvenience to the sale. My problems develop in long lines that don't move but rarely any more as I've become accustomed to dealing with it. Which reminds me....when Isabel said concerts....I've never had any problems at crowded concerts or waiting in long lines for concert tickets. I guess if it's a line I expect to take a while...then I'm good. It's the lines that I don't expect to take a while and end up really long that can phobitize me. Also, the mention of concert reminded me of a time I bought scalped tickets for a concert which were really good seats on the side and lower prom. Most people were standing up most or the entire time. Standing up at concerts is not unheard of especially when other people are doing it. But, you know how it always stops somewhere because like the row behind you are a bunch of lazy bastards or something. Well, I had some chick actually biyatch at me for standing up and blocking her view all because she couldn't get off her duff. She actually expected me to sit down so then my view would be blocked and hers wasn't. I was like "Look....I paid top dollar for these seats and hell if I'm going to have my view obstructed just because you don't want to stand at a freaking rock concert". Stupid biyatch was being completely uncool. Couldn't believe it. I felt like smacking her one up the side of the head. I continued to stand so I could see...screw her laziness. People stand at concerts....what are you going to do...cry cause you don't want to stand? Some people
LAWNMOWERS! I mean I can mow my own damn lawn, its just when I'm walking by, riding by or driving by someone else out in their yard mowing their own lawn....I'm soooooo afraid a little piece of something is gonna shoot out at me and hit me in the face or something. Also, if that blade came loose, it could easily cut my head or leg off if I'm not watching it!
