I just noticed something about the major count...Tiger Woods is only 4 majors off of Nicklaus, while only being in his early 30s. He has chance to win 20 - 30 majors, before his career is over with thing. He will probably be the best golfer, ever. But the thing about Jack and Tiger is that I am seeing is that Nicklaus played in much tougher era.

    Tiger's biggest competition:
Mickelson - choker 7 times out of 10.
Singh - Probably was past his prime 3 years ago
Garcia - That guy named Sergio who never wins anything.
Els - Very good golfer, but he is more like a very consistent player....finishes in top 10 very often never wins too often. Sort of like Sergio, but he is somewhat better
    Duval - Faded into obscurity.
Nick Faldo - Early in Tiger's career
Occasional Random Dude - Dimarco, May, and Mediate.

    Jack's greatest foes:

Gary Player - 6th all time in Major PGA victories.

Tom Watson - 8 Major PGA victories he has won more PGA major championships than everyone Tiger has played put together above.

Arnold Palmer - 5th all time in PGA tour victories and 7 PGA major wins.

    Lee Trevino - 6 majors

Seve Ballestero - Never even heard of this guy, but he apparently has 5 major wins.

    Peter Thomson

    Billy Casper

    Hale Irwin

    Payne Stewart -as a youngster

Nick Price - as a youngster (83) from the international circuits

Johnny Miller - 23 in total PGA tour wins.

Is Tiger ever going to face a tough line of golfers, because competition in golf sucks?

Tiger also has technology on his side. The clubs, balls, etc. are all much better than in The Golden Bear's prime time playing days.

Yeah, but everyone else has good technology too and everyone back then had the same technology during that time too. It's not like they are letting Tiger play with illegal clubs.

Each generation is going to produce better golfers because of all the resources out there to be a better golfer. I wouldn't say Tiger is playing in a less competitive field than Jack.

I think this is faulty logic. If Tiger had won half the majors and half the normal events that he has won in his career, that would leave 39 victories to his peers.

He is just so good that the rest of the field has far fewer wins to hang their hats on.

I'm not saying that he is playing with illegal clubs just saying how technology has helped this age of golfers in general really. I only picked Tiger because there is him and then everybody else.

    DrewP said it best.
