Did anybody see this latest story regarding him? In a nutshell, several years ago, he signed some baseballs for some collectors that had "I'm sorry I bet on baseball" stamped on them. Apparently, one of the owners of these baseballs died and now the family is putting them up for auction. Pete was interviewed about it and said that it was a private signing, he didn't make any money off it, and that he never intended for those balls to be sold to the public. After reading this story, I clicked on his own website, www.peterose.com, and guess what he is selling....for a cool $300 a ball??? Can anybody make some sense out of this for me?
i heard this on the radio this morning Pete really, truly, absolutely, positively, without a doubt JUST ...........DOESN'T................GET IT
he's certainly lacking in people skills. i can't imagine them letting him into the hall of fame before he dies. i just can't imagine it. i can't imagine him at a ceremony. i can't imagine selig allowing it. i can't imagine any part of it. he's just been too "in your face".
I think its to the point where he realizes this and is just going to try to make as much money off of it as possible. He has been fighting to get in for around 20 or so years. He tried to never admit it..Then was told if he did they'd let him in...And they didnt...So hes like f*ck it...Money money money...Can you blame him? He did F-up by coming out with the book before everything got settled..But who knows what he was told behind the scenes
I'm trying to figure out his reasoning for all of a sudden writing "I'm sorry I bet on baseball" on some balls and selling them for $300 himself after he talked like he didn't want those balls to be sold by auction. Is he trying to undermine the auction of the balls that he signed several years ago, or is he just trying to capitalize on it, make a few dollars, and p... everybody off? Those balls that he is selling on his site, if I understand this story right, are balls that he apparently has just made up. They are not a part of the balls that he signed years ago that had those words stamped on them. He's either off his rocker or I'm not understanding this story. Totally crazy.
I would pay money for a Pete Rose autograph signed on a Las Vegas casino sportsbook betting card. That would be nice.
