I know there a few PC gurus here on the BBS, but I hope this won't stump you. I had installed a new motherboard and processor yesterday. I have Windows XP, have the memory, and have the processor speed. Drive space is just fine (over 150GB). I installed the majority of my software on my PC, but for a couple of applications, I keep getting this error: "Please go to the Control Panel to install and configure system components." I did a search through Google to find out if anyone else has had this problem. One site was telling me to go into my Environment Variables, change the Temp variables to C:/Temp. I changed that, rebooted, but kept getting the same error. I'm trying to install PC Anywhere, and I forget the other app. Can anyone help me out?
Did you really use a "/" or did you use a "\"? Sometimes Windows will understand either, but use "\" anyway. Try cleaning out that temp folder, too before you start the install. This problem has been around for a few years in various versions of Winblowz and I swear it's always something different that fixes the problem. Out of curiosity are these applications on a CD or did you download them as files from their makers' websites?
I think 1 was from a CD and the other was from a maker's site. I think I used the " \ ". The " \ " I think was already there, and I just added the C:. I haven't cleared out the Temp directory, but you think it would be too full to install the application?
