hey guys, im having trouble playing dvds on my computer. no matter what program i use, i always get an error that there is something wrong with my video card. I can view normal mpegs, avi's fine. I can even load a dvd with DVDShrink and watch it like that. But for some reason, trying to view it any other way gives me that damn error. I insert the movie, WMP starts up.. then right before it loads the menu it gives me the error. Thing is, the menu still loads, i can see it, and if the movie autostarts, it plays fine, but that stupid error is in the way, and as soon as i click ok, it stops the dvd. Anyone know why this could be happening? and how to fix it? thanks!
Maybe you need some codecs? Maybe there is something wrong with your video card? Have you ever tried to drop the resolution on your monitor to see if that makes a difference? Just reduce it to the next available smaller size. Then try to play the dvd.
One other thing... Usually, programs that play DVD's use something called "overlay" mode. I have encountered problems in the past with video cards whose drivers had glitches in their overlay modes. Ensure that you have downloaded the latest, greatest stable drivers for your video card. Also, install Microsoft DirectX on your system to ensure that your software can connect directly to the video card without having to go through the OS.
A couple of years ago, both RealPlayer and Windows Media Player stopped playing DVDs on my computer at the same time. I didn't understand the error message. Someone here told me to download MPlayerC and VLC Player. Both work very well. I now use MPlayerC 99.5% of the time to play DVDs and video files because it plays nearly everything and isn't as finicky as RealPlayer or Windows Media used to be. I use VLC Player as a last resort when MPlayerC doesn't work. VLC Player has never failed me yet. It plays file extensions I've never heard of before that need to be changed before working on the others.
