Old and drunk... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=nba&id=1877854 LOS ANGELES -- Former Los Angeles Lakers and Seattle SuperSonics guard Gary Payton was arrested last month for investigation of driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday. Payton was stopped at 1:14 a.m. Aug. 28 after an officer saw him backing down an onramp on the San Diego Freeway to avoid heavy traffic caused by an accident, the CHP said in a statement. Payton, 36, failed an alcohol sobriety test and was taken to the West Los Angeles Police Department, CHP officials said. He was also cited for unsafe backing and was released after completing a chemical test at the station. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 15. Last year, Payton was charged with two counts of common assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm for his role in an alleged altercation outside a Toronto club in April 2003. A trial is pending. Payton was with the Milwaukee Bucks at the time. Payton was traded from the Lakers to the Boston Celtics last month. He has threatened to retire rather than play for the Celtics.
Don't you see? Payton was SO excited about playing for the Celtics, he had to celebrate! Clearly that's what happened.
i for one do not blame gary at all for trying to come down the onramp. has anyone tried to drive on the 405 around brentwood?? its freaking hell on its own, and if there was an accident well then you may as well bring you're friends along and play canasta in the car cuz you aint going nowhere
LOS ANGELES -- Former Los Angeles Lakers and Seattle SuperSonics guard Gary Payton was arrested last month for investigation of driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday. You know you're washed up when you get a DUI and it isn't even reported until the next month.
Does anyone think that the Celtics are still going to try and convince him to play in Boston? Sounds like a big headache with a big ego. Maybe theyl should trade him for nothing or just let him retire.
Well... reportedly he passed the breathalizer test. So I don't see how a minor traffic violation & suspicion of DUI is a big deal. Even if he loses his license, big deal, he can use some of the $5 million the Celtics are about to hand him to buy a driver.
