I know there have probably been a million threads on this before, but I don't know how to find them, sorry for that. I sold a CD on eBay about a month ago. It sold for a little over $7 ($2 total, I charged $5 for shipping because I had no idea how much it was gonna cost). The guy mailed me last week saying he did not receive it. I sent him a copy of the receipt, apologized for the inconvenience and offered him a $5 refund (it cost me $2 to mail it). Today, the guy mailed me back and has opened up a complaint with PayPal against me and wants a full refund. Am I obligated to give him a full refund? I lost money on shipping the item. I charged $5 on shipping the item, but only spent $2 at the Post Office so I thought I'd be fair with my refund offer.
That is why you should not sell anything on ebay. I am pretty sure Paypal would be able to help you a little bit better. Did you offer insurance?
No, I did not offer insurance. The only proof I have that I sent the item is the receipt. I should have stopped selling stuff on eBay a long time ago, it's not worth the trouble.
Never mind, this is stupid. I don't feel like arguing with someone over $2. I just gave the guy a full refund.
Ebay is alright, you just need to learn how to protect yourself. There are a lot of people out there trying to get something for nothing, both buyers and sellers.
I tried the ebay thing about a year ago. Way too much hassle for small ticket items. I would spend about three hours listing, packing, and taking a trip to the post office for, say, 10 items where I made about 15% profit which was about $30. Not worth my time.
I've been using it for about 5 or 6 years now and that's only the second time I've had a problem, but like above poster said it's not worth the trouble of making a small profit.
$30 for 3 hours is not bad for someone that doesn't work outside the house. Perhaps they can spend time w/ their kids at home, save on kiddie care and make a few $. A more experienced person can make a little more/ hour. Going to PO is definitely not worth it no matter the profit. You should print postage online and have the mailman pick up at your house for free.
ya, printing the postage at home and paying thru paypal saves a lot of time... after that, you can either get it picked up or just walk upto any post office adn drop it off.
It all goes by weight of the item. You can figure shipping from there and then print the shipping labels for the whole thing. Paypal always takes the side of the buyer and the seller has to prove that the item arrived. I always add shipping confirmation to the items i sell which is $1.10 to the shipping cost i put on there to make sure i have proof if something like that happens.
In paypal there is an option to pay for postage, it should say print shipping labels. The best thing about it is that there is free delivery confirmation and it automatically sends the tracking number to the buyer... excellent feature.
That's true, and my wife does stay home with our son. It's possible that I didn't give it a fair shake, but it was still a hassle.
Depending on your level of tolerant for risk, always buys delivery confirmation or get a tracking number if something that's worth something, and only ship to CONFIRMED ADDRESS, and require a signature for delivery if necessary.
I normally do delivery confirmation with orders. Funny, the one time I don't use it is when I get burned.
