not a Nascar fan but SRO on 1960 says on their sign that they will carry the game if you want to go watch it live. ------------------
Personally, I wouldn't be watching either event. Still, a return to Daytona is a good draw and would pique a lot of people's interest. But I think I can understand 2's thinking. People are underestimating exactly what we're talking about here in the pageant. This is Texas, and those things are big here. Throw in the fact that it's a 'hometown' event, and it's a saturday night, and I can see why NBC figures it to be a major ratings grab. Rok ------------------ "Do you know what nemesis means? Channel 2 screwed themselves big time. NASCAR gets very high ratings compared to other "sporting" events. They're right up there with the NFL I think. ------------------ First the Sopranos and now Eddie Griffin... thank you New Jersey!
I am for any decision that keeps NASCAR off the air. ------------------ Why not visit MovieForums.com? Or FilmDallas.com?
I just looked up tonight's listing on TV Guide Online. The pageant is listed as Miss Texas hosted by Frank Billingsley (Channel 2) and Miss Texas 1982 Gloria Gilbert Barron live from Fort Worth. I feel that as a NBC affiliate, Channel 2 should show NBC programming (Pepsi 400). If Channel 2 was so interested in ratings, why didn't they air alternative programming on Saturday nights instead of the XFL. ------------------ Dream On!
Sounds like even more of a big deal locally than I thought. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I think they can look at this from a ratings perspective. Why else would they do it? It was probably something they committed to beforehand. I'm just thinking of my grandmothers, elderly aunts and such that would be most likely watching a Texas beauty pageant on a Saturday night. Something tells me it will probably be a decent enough draw. Rok ------------------ "Do you know what nemesis means? 'A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent'. I'm totally with you RP. I have never ever met anyone who seriously loved Nascar and have no idea who these people are who watch these things every week. They even have a nightly show dedicated to it on Fox Sports. It blows my mind. ------------------ It's Clutch's City and we're all just living in it...
I don't like when local stations decide that their programming is more important than national programming. If a NBA Finals game was to be pre-empted by a pageant then I would mind I just wanted to see other people's responses. ------------------ Dream On!
this is nothing new for CH2. they routinely preempt primetime NBC shows for the "Billy Graham Crusade" and their own crappy "Dateline Houston". They also refuse to show NBC's daytime soap "Passions" which gets great ratings nationwide. Not to mention sticking Conan O'Brien at 1:05 A.M. Steve Wasserman is a freakin idiot. ------------------
Apparently, NASCAR originally had this race on Fox but, because of the Dale Earnhardt story, they moved it to NBC assuming more interest. When they moved it, channel 2 was already committed to the Miss Texas pagent. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. I hate Channel 2, I hate everything that has to do with Channel 2, I hate every single person associated with Channel 2. Channel 2 is the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked! I've never liked that channel ever since I had to watch Conan at 1 in the morning. ------------------ This post contains no smilies, you must judge my seriousness on your own... I dunno about you all in Houston, but the race was perfect. Long live the #3. Go Dale Jr! ------------------
I was wondering how you guys feel about Channel 2 opting to carry the Miss Texas Teen Scholarship Pageant (exact name?) over the Pepsi 400 tonight. Channel 51 is going to air the race in tape delay after the Astros game. Channel 51 is not known for great reception even with cable. I'm not a Nascar fan so I really don't mind. However, I would tune in tonight because the race is returning to Daytona. I really want to know how Nascar fans in Houston feel. Is this worse than Channel 13 tape delaying Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals? This is not flood coverage...its a pageant. ------------------ Dream On!
Ah yes...Conan at 1. Now, THAT is a travesty. Of course, it used to be even later if I remember correctly. Rok ------------------ "Do you know what nemesis means? I think you are right Rokkit, I think they used to put Jenny Jones on right before it which would have put it on at 2 am, but my memories fuzzy on that. ------------------ This post contains no smilies, you must judge my seriousness on your own...
