Abe Polin was aging, his team decided to keep together that (not very) big 3 of Arenas, Butler and Jamison that wasn't good enough. Bill Davidson was aging and the Pistons resigned Rip, traded Chauncey for an equally old Iverson and spend FA money on Gordon and Villanueva. I don't think Les Alexander is nearly as old as Davidson and Polin was, but he looks pretty old so could his sense of mortality and the possibility that he may pass soon be the reason why he's not "rebuilding," which could take years and years (i.e. you might succeed but I may not be around to see it) rather than retaining talent and hoping to score a star?
Generally, older people are considered wiser. But I'm sure you're thinking of Alzheimer's now. I don't know if you want to start a wager on Alzheimer's . . . Or you may prefer some Viagra-based analysis. . . . Then again, I have heard that when people get white hair, they are resentful of people whose hair is not white (Lebron!!). . . . Some say that as people get closer to passing through the pearly gates, they try to surround themselves with angels (Battier!!). WHY did we have to love a team owned by an old dude, instead of like a college dude or something.
Didn't the Jazz owner keep sheding contracts until the end of his days? For a fiction movie your theory would have made an ok plot; reality it's not that simple.
You mean, the theory is fictional unless you're a Pistons or Wizard owner. It's a possibility that Les does not want us to rebuild.
Les has always tried to swing for the fences, age has nothing to do with it. He hopes to get a Yao Ming replacement, despite the difficulties that he faces.
On this board it's only considered rebuilding if you dump every player on your team who isn't in their rookie contract.
That's still fiction...why would the Wizards rebuild with three all-stars on their team? By some of you guy's logic there should be 25 teams in the NBA rebuilding any given season.
Larry Miller actually died. Knowing his looming mortality, thats why he kept Jerry Sloan and Boozer around. It didnt take until he died for them to let go Boozer for younger options.
