I'm gonna get destroyed for this but so many of even our current problems are from overpopulation.

pollution, hunger, poverty, healthcare, energy, immigration

Think how bad it will be in 40 years when there are 50% more people in the USA alone.

These temporary solutions won't do jack when the core problem is limited resources and too many freaking people.

That's right! That's why we need to spend more money on sending rockets to space! F poverty! :D

    Right?

"Immigration" and "energy" are lumped into your problems incorrectly, sir. Don't you mean "issues" instead of "problems"?

"Too many people in this Earth. We need a new plague." <- name that TV character (difficulty: moderate)

Wholeheartedly disagree. More brainpower = more possible solutions.

IIRC, the industrialized world has a negative birthrate anyway.

What will more brainpower do in 40 years when we jump from 310million to 450 million people living here?

That additional 140 million people will be covered for health insurance the have a disproportionately large (when compared to right now) older and poorer population.

CaseyH, I'm happy for you and imalet you finish, but this National Geographic Interactive Site has some of the best graphs of all time. Of all time!

They had a recent issue that showed global population flattening slightly, at least in terms of a pyramid shape (younger out-populating the older). Wish I could find those great predictive maps on-line, but I cannot.

There is a pretty simple solution.

    Sterilize the Stupid.

Get rid of all the Golf courses.

"pollution, hunger, poverty, healthcare, energy, immigration"

we waste alot of food. not to mention land capable of producing food
Pollution and Energy - alot of this goes to non-essential crap
Preventative Care would solve alot of 'healthcare 'cost
Other great polluters and waste of resources is WARs and fighting

    Immigration - I don't get this one. . . moving 3 people from mexico
to the U.S. is still the same 3 people. . .you don't get to count them twice
Meaning. . I don;t see how Immigration changes the overall population
All you are doing is moving it around

    that beings say
all this Overpopulation is the Devil crap
    is
about people wanting to continue the same wasteful isht they always do
The BIG *SS CAVEAT that they don't say is
ITS A PROBLEM IF I WANT TO MAINTAIN MY LIFESTYLE AND NOT CHANGE

    I still want golf courses
I still want 4 computers in my house
I still want to not recycle
I still want to not eat properly and waste food
I still want to want to be able to run my AC 24/7

    OverPopulation??? PUL-LEASE

    OVERWASTE-IFICATION!!!
    INEFFICIENCY
these are far far worse issue than Overpopulation

Lets say Bill Gates and Warren Buffet got on board the overpopulation train and offered to set up an annuity payment for every woman on the planet that would voluntarily submit to sterilization.

How much of an annual payment would it take to be attractive?

What percentage of the 3 billion women on the planet would go for it?

What would be the long term outcome?

    -edit-

The average annual income for household is around $6000 so I'm going to guess $500 a month for life would be a reasonable figure.

Of course the logistics of surgery centers and banks is the biggest limiting factor in my eugenics scheme.

But if you could get 1 billion women to go for it, you might hold the world population down to around the current 6 billion.

Wow, I agree with Casey on something.

We should emphasize quality over quantity when it comes to life.

Remove all warning labels and let the problem fix itself.

preventative care costs more money that money it saves.

It is good because it saves lives, not money.

For most of the world, children provide security in old age since there is no Social Security or excess income for saving.

A huge percentage of pregnancies must result from pure sexual lust.

We do. We need to expand in this universe and fast. There may not be anything more important than our advancement in science and space.
