After getting back into Houston last night for the summer... paying less than $2 a gallon for gas ($1.99 9/10) and making my first trip to taco cabana in a while...

I just have to say that Houston is a GREAT city...

taco cabana, whataburger, 610 sports radio (and the loop is pretty good too)..

    cheers to houston.

nothing more, carry on with your day

Yeah...triple digit heat with 90% humidity, terrible traffic, some of the worst air pollution in the country, a basketball team that gets blown out by 40 in a critical playoff game, Mattress Mac AND Hilton Furniture commercials, and KRBE....

    great city. ;)

Even with all that, I can't find another city I'd rather live in. Cost of living, jobs, entertainment, etc make those obstacles pretty overcomable.

Yea, there are other cities but I can't afford them.

Houston gets a bad wrap. Its a good city to raise a family. I definately ain't gonna retire here. When I leave, I definately ain't gonna vacation here. But its a good city to live and work.

I like Houston. I didn't think I would before I actually saw it. It gets a bad rap.

    Some positive things:
    -great selection of food
    -cheap
-warm weather (I know, hot in summer, but most everyone has A/C now, and you're not snowed in all winter)
-spread out (getting more crowded though :( )
    -friendly
-not stuck up like Dallas :D
-traffic, believe it or not, is worse in lots of other cities
    -ROCKETS

Not actively looking to live there again, since it's changed a bit and I've gotten used to smaller places (it looks so big now every time I go back), but I wouldn't rule it out.

I dont think that either of these are positives. The sprawl sucks because you have to go so far for things and I have been all over and do not know many cities that have worse traffic than Houston. That is one of the biggest reasons why I hate living there.

I agree that there are some good things about Houston but there are some really bad things as well. There are many times where its hard to balance one way or the other.

All big cities have traffic. Houston's isn't any worse the L.A., San Diego, Bay Area, Chicago, Washington DC, Phoenix, etc. Trust me I have sat in rush hour traffic in all of them.

Houston's humidity does suck, but it is humid all across the Gulf Coast states.

Ever seen the cockroaches in the French Quarter of Nawlins? Then you ain't seen cockroaches.

Spawl. All newer American cities suffer from sprawl.

Pollution, yes it is bad. So I am assuming that everyone that complains about pollution is going to stop driving their car, move into the city, support mass transit and turn the inner loop into the Manhattan of the Southwest? Did think so.

Enjoy Houston or live elsewhere. I live in Tucson because it is a happy medium between my wife and I who isn't from Houston.

    Humidity = good skin

    1. When we get older, we're all going to look great compared to people up north.

    2. The women here all have great skin. This is a very good thing.

It may have some negatives, but I miss it when I'm in Nashville during the school year.

I b**** about Houston like I b**** about my family. it's easy to see all the things that need to be improved, but at the core, there's the love.

    ... and the mosquitoes.

I love the Clear Lake area, just wonderful during Summer and the golden hour. Never had a boat though. :(

I think you really have to have grown up in Houston to love it. I've had people tell me "I'm sorry to hear that." when I tell them I'm from Houston and my friends here in MN don't understand why I tell people I'm from Texas long before I mention that I lived in CA for 7 years, or tell people I'm from Asia or something. They honestly cannot understand why anyone would take pride in saying they're from Houston.

Also in urban circles Houston's a running joke as the city with zoning. That hasn't changed even when I point out that these days Houston is doing better the Twin Cities when it comes to urban planning and design.

I bet you anything you want that these people have never even been to Houston, and are just going along with the old stereotyping of ALL of Texas, not just Houston. Texas has a bad rap in the North, they see us as backwards conservative religious zealots who are still a few decades behind the North in its cultural evolution.

Of course, they are dead wrong, but they just go with what they hear, which most people do in every aspect of life anyways out of ignorance.

But who cares, I hope they continue to freeze to death up there. Ironically, the Snow Belt people have been leaving their towns/states in favor of the Sun Belt states, mainly heading towards the South. So go figure;)
