Tracy is far and away the #1 reason the first unit doesn't run Adelman's offense. He plays at half-speed and conserves his energy and that's just the way it is. If a specific offensive possession isn't geared specifically with him in mind, he usually does nothing and sets a very poor example for the other players to follow. Yao is just hard to watch right now. His hops are completely gone and he's slower than he normally is. I'm going to still assume he isn't fully recovered from his injury. What we are getting now is a preview of Yao a couple of years from now when he turns 30. When he loses a step, his effectiveness is going to plummet. I just hope whatever it is now is only temporary. The system is good but Adelman will not (or cannot) make the first unit follow it.
when artest touches the ball, he never moves it quickly. he holds it, he pounds it and he shoots contested j's. when battier comes back, so to will the ball movement.
You mean its coach's fault? Yes, our offense sux, our defense has lost.... Seriously, its not T-mac's fault, he did well in Boston's game. Its not Yao's fault. He is still the Rox's best player. Only Artest fits into RA's play. But who knows its good or bad? I start to miss JVG.
The team doesn't play hard under Adelman. His offense is not suited to our main players. We are in a win-now mode, and we have a coach who can't adjust his offense to suit our players. We have a stupid coach with a stupid offense where it takes 2 seasons to learn even though we need to win now.
Yao Ming is your answer. That system is not designed to include a 7'6" slow moving center. There is no way that the "system" will ever work while he is in there. That's why the second unit is so much more effective. We are a half-court team, we can't change that.
As explained in the recent Chron article by Jon Feigen, Adelman does not intend to run his Sacramento offense here. We'll see some snippets of it sprinked in here and there (e.g. Hayes passing to the cutting Brooks in the first half), but this team is built to be primarily a low-post and PnR team. The problem is after the first or second option gets stopped, the offense really bogs down. Compare that to the Lakers. They always seemingly have that extra player cutting to the basket or getting open behind the arc when the first few options are stopped. Guys constantly move, and everyone seems to know where everyone else is. That continuity is what's missing for us. Maybe we just don't have enough high-IQ offensive players in the starting lineup.
Imagine if Hakeem got stuck in the high post all day... I wish Yao would tell Les, "its either me or adelman"
I don't think it is the BBall IQ as much as it is a preference for style.....Tmac and Ron do not move well without the ball, neither of them cut hard to the basket off the ball.....they play with the ball in their hands. It was no coincidence that the team started to come together last year when Tmac went out......he got to see the rest of the team running the offense and running it well, when he came back he was more committed to fitting in.... Right now, I see a struggle over who initiates the offense....Tmac, or Ron, or Rafer.... And there is only 1 ball to go around. When Aaron Brooks can make a back door cut for a layup, it shows a lot.....it is all a matter of committment from Tracy and Ron. If they do not committ then one has to sit while the other one plays...because they get in each others way right now. DD
that's why ron is more suited to come off the bench (can't sit t-mac, that will break his confidence) and be the main guy. shane needs to come back soon!
yao freaking ming? lol. you made me laugh for the only time tonight. thank you. back to your post, you might have a point though. i'm curious to see what adelman's next step is. is he gonna continue enforcing his motion offense or will he make some adjustments. to me, whatever works will be fine. but i will be watching adelman's next move.
Be patient guys! RA is still testing our system, I hope. A better team usually comes from the later half of the season. The team need chemistry....
