Clear Channel uses its media to get Bush elected and be pro war. So does Fox. As long as practically half the population is successfully misinformed and holds such beliefs as Sadam or Iraq was involved in 9/11 elections will be problematical. There is an old saw that democracy depends on an informed electorate. A misinformed electorate leads to what we are seing now. A good book on what we are seeing here is David Brock's "the Republican Noise Machine". David of course had his early career fast tracked by the same folks he writes about. It shows how for 25 years the Right has been buying up media, blurring the lines between journalism and opinion pieces. Spending hundreds and hundreds of millions, much of it from a handful of eccentric millionaires with backgrounds in John Birch and other racist and extremist movements. the money goes to to push the careers of pundits like Ann coulter from her earliest days as a college student, buying thousands and thousands of copies of books so their pundits can claim to be bestselling authors, to creating think tanks where usually failed academics or even those without degrees are paid to be "scholars" write papes on topics like global warming is a hoax etc.
