So I've been out of braces for quite some time now. But pretty much as soon as I got them off, I haven't been happy with the way my teeth look. THey're straight and all that, but within 2 hours of removing my retainer, a small gap appears between my 2 front teeth. It's small and not that noticeable, unless you get really close, but its really distracting when I'm eating and food gets stuck in between, or when my own upper lip/gums get stuck in between (that freakin' hurts). I hated my orthodontist from day 1. He took over 3 years to do a 1 1/2 year job, he isn't even a practicing orthodontist, and he charged me a crapload of money for ****ty service and an even worse job on my teeth. The other month, I asked him if he could whiten my teeth, and we talk about it, and then at the end, he's like "oh, by the way, I charge $500 for that." *******. My friend's dad said he'll do it for free on me, since I'm a college student and I know him a little. So what should I do? I don't want to go to a different orthodontist, because then they'll likely charge a ridiculous amount of money too. Should I just go back to my doctor and say "I'm not happy, get me a new retainer, or for that matter, get me Invisalign or braces for a month free of charge". If he charges for any of this stuff and says its my fault for not taking care of my teeth, then he can go to hell. Asswipe.
some people's teeth always move. People have permanent retainers all the time. No guarantee that you'll be retainer-free without movement. Live with it, then pay for invisalign later when you can afford it. You're not getting something expensive free out of this
I've been out of braces for only a few months. This has been happening since day 1. Doctor clearly didn't do his job.
Here's a question: How big is the frenum above your two maxillary central incisors? That's the tag of tissue that goes from your gums to your upper lip. In some cases, after ortho treatment, a frenectomy will be needed to relieve frenum pull (which may be causing the spacing between your two front teeth).
Maybe your college has a dental school? You can sometimes get great services from grad students at bargain prices.
I recently got my braces off and I had the exact same problem in regards to the small space in my 2 front teeth. My orthodontist made me wear bands on my retainer to close up the space. Also make sure you are wearing your retainer all the time. As soon as I took my last bite of food I cleaned my teeth and put the retainer right back on. Its been about 6 months now and luckily my teeth haven't shifted. My orthodontist also tried to charge me for whitening . I couldn't afford it so I had to settle for whitestrips. They should throw it in for free. What is the point of having straight teeth if they aren't white?
Lesson: Don't let people do stuff to/for you unless it's their profession or they're extremely competent. I wouldn't go back to the guy and I wouldn't let your friend's dad do anything either.
