I noticed that, too. It could be that Perez suffered some injury near the end of the season or even in the off-season that was a career-ending injury. That is my guess because it is not like he was an old guy. However, if he is really gone, I won't miss him because that b*stard always owned my teams.
but in all our seasons of OOTP, has there ever been anything even remotely this odd? I don't think we'll have a problem similar to this again.
But Odalis was never one for the disabled list. His last injury was nearly two seasons ago, and that was just a mere weeklong stint with the most minor of minor injuries. Something like a stiff calf. If Odalis must be an example to the masses, I shall accept that. Though, if there is one thing I cannot stand for, it is wasting a petition. So, I will above all other matters, use blinding aggression and stealthy intelect to fight for Cuttino's petition for saving Odalis. Free Odalis Hate put him in retirement. Love is gonna bust him out.
Nothing against the Wakefields but I gotta go with the events that have happened. Your really opening a can of worms here. I know its random but THE WHOLE GAME IS RANDOM!!! Does this mean if I don't like how something went down I can petititon for a change? Maybe Odalis is having some family issuse and needs to address them. Maybe he has all the money he'll ever need an it READY to retire. Maybe, just maybe he doesn't like playing in LA. Maybe he wants to force a trade to Houston. I petititon for that!!!!!!
OK, I found the source of the Odalis' decision to hang 'em up, so to speak. Blister on finger, career ending injury. Yes, I know, maybe in OOTP speak a "blister on finger" means multiple gunshot wounds to the chest
I'd also like to add that the precedent has always been to overrule the game on ridiculous events. There hasn't been anything this dramatic, but... Earlier this season, when Prior had an injury and became injury-prone, he mysteriously dropped from a B to a G in hits without notification. His talent was restored. On one of the older OOTP leagues, Esteban German (on my team) had some kind of knee injury, and for some unknown reason the game decided to take away his hitting talent. Again, it was restored. There is an element of randomness on OOTP, but we also have to accept that it is just a computer game, and on rare occasions there will be some absurd events that defy logic. But that's what we're here for... we can correct those things. It's been done in the past, and it should continue.
Haha...um, no just ask the Giants if that was true! As for my feelings on Odalis, I have no true feeling one way or the other - I'll do whatever the majority wants.
not like this. In the last 30 years, has there ever been one pitcher to retire at 27 years old for no apparent reason, while having a 2.6 ERA and being one of the top five pitchers in the game? real life is certainly unpredictable, but I'd bet pretty much anything that such an event won't happen in my lifetime.
Uh? I thought it was common knowledge that the game does not always tell of talent developments. So if the game had done that on those two injuries it would have been ok? Why could not an injury affect Priors in avoiding hits, even considering it was such an injury that even made him injury prone? And German losing some hitting talent over a knee injury doesnt have to be freak. If you can stand anymore (to pull it to the extreme) how do you expect to hit? After all this crazy stuff that I did not agree to, I'd like to say that retiring due to a blister is the most freak thing ever. The only thing I could think of is that blister really did hurt and that p***y Perez did not want to risk that extensive pain again.
Or maybe he's sick and tired of having to live in Tim Wakefields shadow. I'll go with whatever the majority wants here, however I don't think we should have the control to change events that is randomly selected by the computer. It's a Pandora's Box if you ask me. I'm new so I'm guessing that this type of thing has happened before and been corrected, but I don't think it should be. The unpredictabilty of the game is what makes the game fun. And as far as considering retirement early....look no further then Mr. Eddie Griffin himself.
Well, there was a reason, he suffered a career ending injury. Granted a blister is hardly regarded as a scourge of men, but according to the game it ended his career. If you want to discuss it, come to the irc room, but right now I'm leaning towards keeping Odalis retired.
I can't - I'm at work. also, chuck, how many times in the history of baseball has anyone retired from a blister? furthermore, I hope you plan on changing Prior back to a G in hits... if this isn't an exception to the "OOTP is always right" rule, then nothing should be. Ever.
Cat, the difference on this is: Prior's talent decline wasn't accompanies with a message on the Player development page. So that strikes me as more likely a computer error. With Odalis, there was an explanation for it,even though it's unlikely
oh, I get it. If there's no message on the player development page, a change can be reversed because of a minor technicality. But if one of the best pitchers in the game retires at 28 because of a blister, no changes can be made? now that's logic.
Yeah, that's it. It all comes down to the fact that this game is supposed to have randomness, but I have to correct for game errors. Prior most likely was a game error, since developmental changes are accompanied with messages on the Tdev page. Odalis was one of the random events, he had a career ending injury, that's what the game said, it doesn't matter if he had a blister, if a wombat gnawed his leg off, or if he had a broken back.
oh, and the game couldn't have had an error by putting career ending injury next to a blister? Yes, I'm sure it's so perfect.
