Being 1000 horse power I'm sure its break neck fast, but they had an interesting show on one of the channels the other day comparing the Super cars of the 80s and 90s to the super cars of today and almost every super car from the previous generation beat the super cars made today. The Mclaren F1 blew everything out of the water apparently.
In terms of production models I understand that this is for two reasons, liability issues and fuel efficency standards. I'm not sure if it really holds true for such a low production volume vehicle like this.
the owner/main engineeer said that they could up it way past 1000 to like 1028 i think, but it was extremely dangerous. Also, the car has basically 2 engines and a monster MONSTER transmission to harness the power. I've read about it a while back and its just nasty.
I wonder if it will ever show up on Cribs and who will defile it by taking it to West Coast Customs? The first time I heard about that car was when I was reading the leaked Batman Begins script. I just remember the script saying it was a million dollar car so I had to see this thing for myself.
Reminds me of one of the greatest moments in television history: http://youtube.com/watch?v=-y8o8KHiRrg&search=bub
The Bugatti isn't super 'quick' like say a 911 turbo because it is a HUGE (heavy) car -- but once it gets moving it just keeps going and going.
Uh, ~3 seconds 0-60...isn't fast? What exactly do you drive? http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/bugatti_veyron.asp * * * BTW, who needs viagra when you can watch Enzo test drive vids. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/83769/ferrari_enzo/
Hahaha... Bugatti Veyron... what mindless engineering with very little soul can get you. It's no Lamborghini or Ferrari in terms of driving refinement... it's just 1000 hp in a sexy shell. But you want speed? Talk to Mr. Lingenfelter... 3 second 0-60 times? Bwahaha... slow. Short of top speed, this would eat the Bugatti up. A Lingenfelter modified twin turbo C5 'Vette. 0-60 in 1.97 seconds (sneeze... where'd it go??) 1/4 mile in 8.95 seconds 230 mph top speed 1100 hp And to top it off.... can be street driven : http://www.lingenfelter.com/documents/CF427TT_eprint.pdf I'm waiting to see what he's capable of doing with a Z06...
BTW, Hennessey Motor Sports in Houston sells a Viper mod for the 2006 Viper that puts a twin turbo in it for 1000 hp/1100 lbs.ft. torque and a top speed of 255 mph. Only about 20 or so will be built. It'll cost $225,000. Faster than the veyron, cheaper, and rarer...
There are only handful of cars from the 80's/90's that can hang with the supercars of today... but the point to be made here is that there were FAR fewer cars in the 80's and 90's that could post sub 4.0s 0-60 times. The elite of the bunch back then was the McLaren F1. But that is the exception not the rule. I can't think of anything built back then outside of the F1 that could run as fast as the Ferrari Enzo, the Saleen S7, the Ford GT, the Pagani Zonda of today. Not to mention the sole purpose for building the F1 was to build the fastest production car ever... period. The F1 is one of my favorite supercars of all time... but the Enzo and S7 can hang with it... it'd be a very tight race.
