I don't know if anyone from The Verve Pipe died, but I know that they've released two CDs since they came out with the one that had "The Freshman" on it. They're about to get dropped from their label, cuz their most recent CD only sold a little over 5000 copies in the first week, and hasn't sold much since. Silverchair isn't exactly a one hit wonder in the US, either. Even though their first CD is by far their most successful, the two they've released after it have both gone gold here...I guess it's not much compared to the double platinum status of the first two, but...
Crowded House also had "Something so Strong" which along with the lyric you quoted from "Don't Dream It's Over" makes them a 2-Hit Wonder.
I was tempted to offer, "Electric Avenue" by Eddie Grant but while I was closing my eyes and feverishly trying to remember his other works it came to me...He also wrote the theme song for "Romancing the Stone" which was never used in the lame movie. Pop Music, howevwer, by M, does qualify as onehitwonderdom.
Tarzana - Jungle Boy woah, woah, woah, wo- wo- woah.... The Breakfast Club - Right on track...not gonna get you back... I get right on track... How about that Metal band, Kingdom Come? they had like one album, i don't even think they had a hit! They were on the Monsters of Rock tour '88 (with Van Halen) there are so many, I can't even think of them.. stay tuned for more one hit wonders... rH
The Vapors - Turning Japanese Murray Head - One Night in Bangkok Kajagoogoo - Too Shy Shy Aha - Take on Me
That song for the longest time was what I thought it was called. But, listening to an '80's flashback weekend on the radio one day, they played that song and said that it was Tarzan Boy by Baltimora. 2 interesting things about that song and artist: 1) The song would become real popular in a Listerine commercial (for the life of me, I can't remember, it though) 2) Baltimora was one of the first, maybe the first, singer known to die of AIDS.
Whooo let tha dawgs out?!?!?!WOOF, WOOF! & "Alright stop, corraborate and listen , Ice is back with a brand new invention...Ice, Ice Baby!" The biggest one hit Loser of them all!!!
But what about his remake of Play That Funky Music, which was the original A-side to Ice Ice Baby? I agree that Mr. Robert van Winkle is a loser, but he's working or has released a new album -- he's now a hard-rock wannabe ala Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock...YEEHAAAA!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately, Vanilla Ice cranked out three total hits. Ice Ice Baby Play that Funky Music and I Love You Sad, but true. I heard him oin a radio interview a while back talking about his "hits" and a new album he was going to release. This had to be 2-3 years ago. He did a remake of Ice Ice Baby on it too.....which they played a clip of. It was like a metal version of it. BAD!
Lest we forget... "Pop Muzik" - M "Valley Girl" - Moon Unit Zappa "Pina Colada Song" - Rupert Holmes "Cars" - Gary Newman "Funkytown" - Lipps, Inc. "Bette Davis Eyes" - Kim Carnes "Mickey" - Toni Basil

Wow, that is surprising because while I couldn't turn on the radio without hearing "Tomorrow" when their first album came out, I haven't heard a single thing about them since. I knew they had a couple more albums, but I didn't realize they actually sold.
When In Rome - The Promise Cause & Effect - You Think You Know Her Shawn Colvin - Sunny Meredith Brooks - b**** Chumbawumba - Tubthumping Dynamite Hack - Boyz N Da Hood (cover of Easy E) Orgy - Blue Monday (cover of New Order) Gerardo - Rico Suave
Proclaimers: I would walk 500 miles... Both Silverchair and Crowded House are considered major successes outside the USA, particularly in Australia. Ah, the follies of commercial radio.
First, HOW CAN YOU SAY THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES ARE ONE HIT WONDERS?!?!?!?!!? They've put out seven cd's! In fact I just saw them performing on tv last week! Now to my favorite one hit wonders... Snow and Vanilla have already been mentioned, but they deserve to be mentioned again. I can still recite every lyric to Ice Ice Baby and I also remember Vanilla's cameo in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze...Go Ninja Go Ninja Go, Go Ninja Go Ninja Go, GO GO GO GO, Ninja, Ninja, Rap, Ninja, Ninja, Rap... I'm surprised it didn't get much airplay... Also to a couple groups that haven't been mentioned... The Proclaimers with "500 Miles" But I would walk 500 miles And I would walk 500 more Just to be the man who walked 1000 miles To fall down at your door There are also a couple solid Punk Covers of this song... Another classic... Skee-Lo with "I Wish" I wish I had a brand-new car So far, I got this hatchback And everywhere I go, yo I gets laughed at And when I'm in my car I'm laid back I got an 8-track and a spare tire in the backseat But that's flat And do you really wanna know what's really whack See I can't even get a date So, what do you think of that? I heard that prom night is a bomb night With the hood rats you can hold tight But really tho' I 'm a figaro When I'm in my car I can't even get a hello Well so many people wanna cruise Crenshaw on Sunday Well then I'ma have to get in my car and go You know I take the 110 until the 105 Get off at Crenshaw tell my homies look alive Cause it's hard to survive when your livin' In a concrete jungle and These girls just keep passin' me by She looks fly, she looks fly Makes me say my, my, my I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller, I wish I had a girl who looked good, I would call her, I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat, and a six four... That's all...for now... Edit: Davo snuck in the 500 miles post before I saw it, very good choice davo.
The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star Tommy Tutone - 867-5309 Cutting Crew - I Just Died in Your Arms Tonite Soft Cell - Tainted Love Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me with Science Wall of Voo Doo - Mexican Radio Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax Taco - Puttin' on the Ritz Laura Branigan - Gloria Quarterflash - Harden My Heart Maniac - Michael Sembello (I think this was from the movie Flashdance) Naked Eyes - Always Something there to Remind Me Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me Scandal - The Warrior Katrina and the Waves - Walking on Sunshine Til Tuesday - Voices Carry (although Aimee Mann is doing solo work now) I was an 80's kid, I could go on and on and on....
But if we are going with a "true" one-hit wonder, then both of these artists had other hits. Obviously, Harden my Heart by Quarterflash was their biggest hit, but they had 2 other minor top 40 hits. And Naked Eyes had "Promises" which was a great song. It's the same thing with a Flock of Seagulls. Everybody remembers "I Ran", but they forget about one of the greatest '80's new-wave hits ever in "Wishing (Photograph of You)". Speaking of more one hit wonders: She's a Beauty - The Tubes Freak Like Me - Adina Howard I Know There's Something Going On - Frida Perfect Way - Scritti Politti Let's Go All the Way - Sly Fox A-E-I-O-U Sometimes Y - Ebn-Ozen - not really a top 40 hit, but a song that pops up from time to time on '80's flashback weekend shows plus it's the craziest song that I've ever heard.
