For example, Can Dirk Nowitzki play for the USA team?

Would he need to become a citizen of the US? and if he did would he be able to play for Germany?

Or can he just switch between the two countries that he wants to play for?

This applies to all international sports.

Im confused , I just need some clarification

Yeah, remember Hakeem played for the USA in the 96 Olympics, I think that was because he was a citizen.

I think you have to have been a citizen for three years already to participate in the Olympics, which was why Hakeem became a citizen in '93.
