Does common sense tell you that if there was a procedure in place for them to review the play in slow motion and they did so, they still wouldn't call the foul?

An obvious missed call is more likely to happen in real time than after replay. And this wasn't simply a judgment call -- which implies ambiguity over whether there was a foul or not. It was a clear-cut foul.

There is a reason why they don't have it reviewable.

Like I said it's the equivalent to the NFL making pass interference reviewable.

And in real time it was obvious to everyone that the play we are talking about was a foul.

It's not like the refs just missed the call because it was clear as hell in real time. The refs just chose to swallow their refs.

If the NBA wants that called the simple solution is to tell the refs if they are going to call that a foul in the 1st,2nd,and 3rd qt than call it on a last second shot too.

 

The referees are told that.

In real time, humans tend to see what they want to see. I guarantee you that most of the people in the crowd did not see a foul on that last play.

And refs, being human, would rather not have to make a call like that in front of a hostile crowd, so in real time they are more likely to "swallow their whistle" in such situations. But if you force them to review it, they'd have no choice but to make the call, and the crowd would have no choice but to accept it.

 

That no-call was bs.

NEW YORK, April 7, 2010 – Joel Litvin, NBA President, League and Basketball Operations, issued the following statement regarding the final seconds of the Oklahoma City Thunder at Utah Jazz game last night at EnergySolutions Arena:

"On the final play of last night’s Oklahoma City-Utah game, the officials missed a foul committed by the Jazz’s C.J. Miles on the Thunder’s Kevin Durant during a three-point shot attempt.”

For the first time in his career, Durant didn't get a call in his favor, and the NBA is all over his ass admitting the mistake. Watch Durant get even more bull**** calls from now on. What a shame.

The new golden boy for the league has arrived.

 

This is much more than just a call. It was for a game... a game that meant a lot for the Thunder seeding-wise in the playoffs. It may or may not effect the outcome of their future based on which seed they end up with. I'm not saying OKC would have won even if they had made the call and I'm not going to blame the refs for OKC losing, but this call wasn't just an ordinary call that Durant didn't get.

Is there such a thing as Durant not getting a call? Outside of this one, obviously.

My point was, the NBA is now setting a precedence (of sorts) bu admitting its mistake here. If it were not Durant, or any other All Star, would the NBA make that same statement?

 

I hate the fact that this happened to OKC, but I would like to point out that if they did not emerge into a 50 win team this season the Rockets would be #8 right now. :grin:

I hope the Rockets beat the Jazz tonight and help OKC catch them.

 

On the front page of NBA.com it says the NBA reviewed the foul and says the officials missed it.

What now? Do they replay the game with Durant shooting 2 free throws and .8 on the clock?

that call there change the whole game...and whole playoff seeding....utah won so now their #2 seed...if they had lost they go to #5 seeding(big difference)...and OKC would be #6 but now their #7.

 

has nothing to do with it being durant...the NBA also admitted a few years back that a foul should have been called on Fisher during the lakers/spurs playoff series on Brent Barry.

OH WAIT thats right they only admitted it because it was former SLAM DUNK CHAMPION Brent Barry and not some ordinary joe
