Let's start by how this organization has gone in the last few years: 1) Yao has nagging leg injuries, sweep it under the rug. 2) Yao has unsuccessful surgeries, sweep it under the rug. 3) Yao has no shot at playing a full season, sweep it under the rug, collect season ticket sales by parading him in front of fans, collect China money by parading him in front of fans. 4) Assets assets assets, assets is the name of the game! We're gonna land a big fish. 5) Damn we almost got Rashard Lewis. 6) Damn we almost got Amare. 7) Damn we almost got Bosh. 8) Damn we almost got Carmelo. 9) Damn we almost got Gortat. 10) Damn we almost got Gasol. 11) Damn we almost moved up in the draft, stupid Bobcats. 12) Let's fire a HOF coach and hire a clear low-tier coach because he is a yes-man to the GM. 13) Tweener forwards we must collect, we need more tweener forwards, all your tweener forwards are belong to us. 14) Here it comes, greatest off season ever... 15) Williams to Nets, Johnson to Nets, Gordon to Phoenix, Dragic to Phoenix, Lowry unhappy, Martin unhappy, Nash to LA, Hibbert to Portland... If the Rockets fail to land a big free agent/trade after this offseason Morey should be fired. This was his whole idea. The part that I believe is most upsetting is that he convinced Les to fire Rick Adelman and hire on Kevin McHale in one of the most confusing and unusual coaching departures in recent memory.
I get trying to win. And I get rebuilding. What I don't get is this wishy washy half-assed BS. Now that almost all the cards have been played out (except for Courtney Lee, Marcus Camby, and Dwight Howard now), it's really hard to argue that we should still be trying to contend. Last year's roster would have been perfect to add Dwight to. Now? We'd just be plugging one leak by letting three more spring up. So with the goal of rebuilding in mind: 1. Why did we sign a center for 8M per year? I guess it's rationalizeable if you consider that we have zero centers on the roster so far, and we are getting a projectable 24yr old that might improve to a quality better than his contract. 2. Why are we going after Jeremy Lin? This one is much more unconscionable, and I will be very upset if it's proven that this is not nothing more than a ploy to get New York to waste more cash on him than they have to. We've got 99 reasons not to sign Jeremy Lin on this team. Morey used to be somebody I thought could take a step back and see the bigger picture. But now I get the feeling that organizational and public pressure have forced him to compromise his principles of "business practice" so to speak, and to start doing things for different reasons than ultimately trying to win a championship. And that's just awful for a fan of a sports franchise. To realize that your team doesn't even care about winning, they just want to put fans' butts in the seats. The last time that happened to us was Drayton from 2005-2010.
If we could have traded up in the draft and if we can trade Martin and Scola (have to keep Lowery now since we have no point gaurd) then this would have been the perfect summer. We are finally starting to rebuild! Should have done it a couple of years ago.
