As always, no PBP in the thread. If you need that try one of the game cast sites. Keep discussion to this series. If it is not about this series it goes somewhere else. 6-28 C.J. Wilson, LHP (7-3, 3.17) vs. Jordan Lyles, RHP (0-2, 4.20) 7:05 on FSH 6-29 Colby Lewis, RHP (6-7, 4.44) vs. Brett Myers, RHP (3-6, 4.65) 7:05 on FSH 6-30 Matt Harrison, LHP (6-6, 3.00) vs. Wandy Rodriguez, LHP (5-4, 3.21) 7:05 on FSH
Really hoping Wandy and Myers have good stats....other then that hope Lyles continues to improve and no butt kickings.
CJ doesnt like our uniforms... CJ Wilson said that the Astros terrible records isn't the worst thing going for them, it's their "barbecue sauce red" jerseys. "I prefer real red, like we wear," he said. Love it.
Who is CJ Wilson? Holy crap, the Rangers talking smack hits me so wrong. So many years of absolutely nothing...one of the worst franchises in pro sports....they have one winning season in forever and all of a sudden the smack talk begins. My friends from Dallas, who couldn't spell baseball before, are now the biggest Ranger fans ever. And seriously....team color smack, CJ? Really? Could you be any more Dallas???
Not necessarily. All three of those guys are capable of keeping down the floodgates, and keeping the games close. Might need at least 1 complete game and and 8 inning start or two, but not unheard of. Also, the Rangers only have 4 runs on the Stros, so even if they win 1 one game, it would not be unheard of for the Stros to make up the 5+ run difference. They did just score 10 on Sunday, and the Rangers give a lot of runs.
If your not in the Houston area (like me) the Stros-Rangers game is FREE today on mlb.com http://mlb.mlb.com/index.jsp You do need to to sign up for the free mlb account, but it does not take long.
Bourn has developed into a darn good hitter to go with elite defense and excellent baserunning. He is turning into a very important asset come July 31st. What a swing by Wilson, dude looks legit as a hitter.
Based on WAR, Bourn is the best player on this team and the 6th best player in the NL, believe it or not, and it's been that way for a while, even when Pence was on that hitting streak. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/NL/2011-value-batting.shtml#players_value_batting::13 (sort by WAR) He's ahead of guys like Votto and Berkman and right behind Fielder. I believe WAR is sort of an all encompassing value that includes hitting, baserunning, fielding, etc... and represents the total number of wins a player adds to a team above what a replacement level player would add.
Stats are awesome and fantastic tools but sometimes.... Heck, if it helps his value and gets us a nice prospect then I won't disagree with it.
According to that same metric, Chris Johnson is the worst on the team and the 5th worst in the NL among qualified players. Basically, the combination of his hitting, defense, etc... adds negative wins to the team. He's worse than a replacement level player, i.e., you could readily find a player to replace him that would be better.
He better get more than a nice prospect. That guy needs to be a sure thing I you are trading the 6th best player in the league who is in his prime
I really like Bourn. As this season goes more and more down the toilet and if he is not traded, I wish he would ramp up his stolen bases in an attempt to get 80. He would be the first person to do so since Rickey Henderson and Vinny Coleman.
Yes, Chris Johnson can be replaced...easily. Stros have zero life and whatever is left will probably be beaten out of them by Sunday. Edit - Right on que, Chris...
Also according to that metric, Carlos Lee is a clearly above average defensive outfielder (and better as a defender than as a hitter)!
