It’s really more about the timing of when you catch teams than anything unless you’re playing teams like the White Sox or Rockies.

Good example: the Phillies just got swept by the Yankees while Harper is on a 1-29 skid. You don’t want to catch them when he’s on a 15-29 heater.

Then, you have the factor of which pitchers are you going to face and it’s really a crapshoot.

It would be better with a Caratini/Dubon platoon.

I don't get your fetish for playing the backup catcher at 1B

Because our 1B is a worse hitter than our backup catcher and isn’t good defensively either.

It's a way to get a productive bat in the lineup for an offensively challenged team.

This is the fallacy of good bench players.

"Obviously if we play him more he will produce the same!"

Or...hear me out...the reason he is playing well is because he is not playing more.

Yah...but Singleton is also a bench player or worst (bottom of the bench), so who gives a damn if we platoon another bench player in his place.

They are also facing SPs on both Friday and Saturday that were brought up from the minors recently due to injuries in their rotation.

Yordan with 6 ribbies in last 20 games. Yanier has passed him up for the team lead, Bregman closing in as well

I don’t think it’s crazy to think Caratini could hit better than the .660 OPS Singleton has produced so far…

Buck is wrong in this situation, because Singleton is a bench player as well than took the place of a really bad starter. Why not give somebody else a chance. A platoon at worst should have been in place already. No reason not to give one bench player a chance over another bench player who is not performing, especially against LH.

It is possible. Whitley just needs to wait his turn. Freshly acquired Caleb Ferguson may first get a shot.

I understand why Brown did not want to give up 4 of the Astros 5 best prospects for Diaz to play 1st, and I get that there was almost NOTHING available at the deadline - but I do not understand why he didn't at least take a flier on someone like Mark Canha.

    Canha hits lefties really well.

    Singleton is horrific against lefties.

There doesn't seem to be any real excuse for that IMO.

Seriously. People need to realize Singleton is not a starter and does not deserve to be treated like one. It's time to platoon the bench players at 1b until they find someone in the minors to take over fully.
