well what do you know... Happ's actually pitching like he's capable of lately. I didn't even know we sent him down to the minors, lol. Feel like we should have done that a month or so ago when it was clear something was jacked up with his mechanics, mind, whatever. Good to see us winning some games lately too.
Went to the game tonight. Happ is a difficult pitcher to watch live, his delivery looks easy, but nothing explosive about his pitches, so it's easy to lose interest after a while. Other observations: It's safe to say Schafer likes rap music (walk-up music), Paredes is ultra quick and athletic with very good bat speed, Carlos Lee is not as fat as people make him out to be. He's just big boned Moe
Didn't know that. I retract my "Did he you-know-what" comment. I wish him, his son, and his family the best. I'll go sit in the corner now and feel like an a**hole.
Maybe it was all in his head, and the trip to OKC has relaxed him, or the fact that he just got lucky playing 2 slumping teams with bad offenses. Regardless, one walk last night was great to see.
Has anyone noticed that Carlos Lee has the 2nd best WAR of his career this season? It is mostly due to defensive metrics that have shown him to be a very poor defender throughout his career, but show him as being 2nd in dWAR this season, only behind Mike Stanton.
another cool metric i can discount then. sweet. how many times are we going to have this happen before we wake up that sabremetrics isn't a panacea? remember...these same sort of "metrics" will tell you that hakeem just barely cracked the top 10 most valuable players in the league in 1994. now they tell us carlos lee is brooks robinson. sweeeeet!!!!
For years they have told us he is one of the worst defensive players in the majors. This year is an anomaly. Though I did think his defense in LF was better than previously, and have been happy with him at 1B. Fangraphs, which measures WAR differently doesn't have this being his 2nd best season, but does say he has been worth $11.9 million this year.
Dude is surprisingly good at 1B, far better than capable; he did come up as a 3B, has good hands but is just silly slow in LF. Some team in the AL really needs him next year as a 1B/DH. Please. Max, why do you even bother watching the games? You can glean all pertinent info from spreadsheets on the web.
I'm shocked we heard nothing regarding a possible deal with the Giants. A deal that exchanged Rowand for Lee would have made sense, and Lee would have been great at 1B for them.
I agree, Lee's deal has gotten to the point that it really isn't all bad. While he isn't very good relative to what he is making, he is having a quasi-decent season. In fact, take April away and he is a .300 hitter with an OBP of .364...no HR power but he will finish with close to 40 doubles and drive in around 90. I though the Giants, Angels and even Rangers could have used him.
