    He just looks slow. Quick math says he stole 54 in his entire 11-year minor league career but got caught 28 times. Nothing special.

    I believe the Astros have the second highest ground ball to fly ball ratio in the NL and we don't hit a lot of extra base hits.

    The fact is we hit above league average w/ RISP. We actually hit for a better average w/ RISP that the Phillies, who lead the NL in runs.

    It's our lack of walks and isolated power that contribute most to our poor run production.

    well at least that last inning the 3 outs came on 2 very well hit balls. Not sure there is a whole lot you can do about that.

    We are 27th in XBH. Only the Mets, Padres, and A's have fewer.

    And you have to take that Mets ranking with a grain of salt. They've been w/out 3 of their best hitters for extended time.

    Astros = mediocrity

    We'll probably go into a funk after the All star break when we face the better teams in the league.

    So, we finish an NBA season's worth of games at 40-42.

    Captain Obvious: This team has got to be allergic to .500 or something.

    Luke Scott is outperforming Carlos Lee this season for $16 million less.

    Same for Zobrist vs. Tejada (or Matsui, since he primarily plays 2B - but he could be our SS... I assume his defense is no worse than Tejada's).

    Yea, I didn't mention Zobrist because I think the Huff deal made more sense at the time.

    Don't get me wrong, I appreciate Tejada and understand that we couldn't have gotten him w/out giving up something but this is the way I look at it:

    Let's say we never signed Carlos Lee and never made that Tejada trade. Those two are now making around $32 million combined. We'd still have Luke Scott making a few million out in LF. As noted before, Scott is outperforming Lee while making pennies, relatively. Perhaps we still have Everett at SS. Everett is a horrible hitter. No two ways about it. But he does make up for some of his offensive ineptitude by playing good defense. So, you've got Scott and Everett instead of Lee and Tejada. It's an overall downgrade, offensively, but... you have somewhere between $20-25 million more in payroll available, not to mention a couple of good young arms like Patton and Albers. I think you could more than make up for the offensive dropoff of no Lee/no Tejada by upgrading in other areas.

    I over-simplified the above analysis but the bottom line is we have an owner that spends quite a bit on payroll. Would we better off today if we passed up on signing Lee and trading for Tejada and spent that money in other ways?
