Giles has the opportunity to win the job and he couldn't. Now he is pitching well as a setup. How do we know Ken isn't going back to stinking it up as a closer?
VICTORY! Jeez if we can only get a modicum of consistent hitting and Keuchel finding even a little bit of his old self this team may be able to string together 3, maybe even 4 wins in a row.
Survived Correa's ill advised steal attempt and missed strike three call on Davis....tide is turning?
freaking closers and their flair for the dramatic. not counting the rangers, more good baseball against 1st place teams. I think we knocked them out of first.
Perhaps he didn't know he had to "win" the job given that he was a closer and the price the team paid to acquire him.... would fully explain some of the lack of mental acuity-induced struggles to start the year. Giles as a closer has actually been the best version of Giles there is.... till now. Regardless of it all, Harris has shown better poise/control and stuff than either of them... and Feliz has the opportunity to blow away everybody with the stuff he has.
I bet my friend that I would go to Casa Ole if Luke blew the save, so thank goodness he didn't. This is proof that God is benevolent.
Sort of... you have to prepare yourself when its only a 1 run lead and you simply have a closer that's "not bad". I long for the days of electric lights out stuff that had batters quivering and looking like inept school-kids swinging a bat.
Bullpen ballin. All of them. Easily the strongest part of this team. Negatively? Must be 10° in Hell today #grace Players shouldn't be considered out unless they slide passed the bag, IMO. Very cheap to be called out when a throw is beaten.
But still with the duh base running. Not learning. How much longer will these guys continue to bang their head into the wall. We seem to be sliding better though.
what's so special about 2nd base that you can't leave the back for 1/1000000000 of a sec. they might as well start calling outs at first base when the runner keeps on going past the bag.
I thought that would be one rule that got changed. Allow the runner to lose contact with the bag in the course of a routine slide. Obviously if he over slides and the tag is maintained then he is out, but if he just loses contact while still "on" the base, he should be safe.
Disagree. It's easy to slide and stay on the bag. The game isn't played "around" the bag. You are either on it or off. And if players are dumb enough not to learn how to slide properly then so be it.
I agree that Harris has made a better case to be the closer than Giles. But maybe there is something about leaving people where they are thriving and not mess with what is working. As bad and inconsistent as this offense has been, why would you mess up with their strongest unit?
Because like I said earlier, I didn't feel that Gregerson was necessarily working with some of the blown saves and spotty outings he's suffered from this month. At this point, he's going to have to fail consistently for there to be a change... And I hate that it would take absolute failure, and lost games, before a change can be made, when it's clear that guys like Harris and even Feliz have almost over-powering stuff right now. I'm happy with how they've turned around Giles... Not really pushing for him per se, but definitely looking to upgrade Gregerson. Lost in the mix is Devenski... Is he on Kyle Weiland island right now? Haven't seen him since Boston?
