in reality, the way it's going (it being the season), we're going to find a way to pull a close game out!
I'd use Qualls when lefties are scheduled to come up... and Fields/Neshek if there were mostly righties. Either Hinch was worried about Davis, or Qualls was simply due for the work. Either way, there is way too much overreaction on this board when things DON'T go right... vs. "under"reaction when they do. Also, you can't be "robotic" when managing any team... doing the same thing every time, regardless of considering everything (including individual matchup histories, how a player's arm feels, possibilities of having an extra-inning game, etc.).
Skeptics on the Astros feel the lineup as constructed now can win some games in the regular season but come playoff time, good pitching can shut this strikeout heavy offense down. Feels like the team needs a couple more polished hitters. Possibly Lowry and Correa are those bats.
You're speaking in "absolutes" and using minuscule anecdotal/small sample sizes to make your point... comparing a rookie who happens to be off to a good start to a veteran who hasn't lost all ability to hit. Again, what is Rasmus' place on this roster if you can't use him in that situation?
I tend to agree....situational hitting is so key when facing top pitching and the Astros aren't getting it done against guys that aren't anywhere close to the top. But it's a long season and they have been winning, so I cant complain too much
