You know that gets me and I hope we improve in the 2nd half of the season...we have a pretty good offensive but can not get the big hit which is why are runs scored are so low but avg pretty good.

I researched that a little. We had the 6th highest AVG w/ RISP in the NL as of a few days ago. We were even ahead of the Phillies who lead the NL in runs.

Our problem isn't clutch hitting. It's the lack of walks and isolated power that separates us from a team like the Phillies. We don't walk enough and we don't hit enough XBHs.

I have the extra inning package and JD is one of the best color men in the game.

I was surprised, too. Zach Levine wrote a little about it a couple of weeks ago so I decided to do a little more research.

Other than Berkman, we don't have a single guy that walks enough. Bourn and Pence improved this season but I'm not sure where they stand compared to league average. I know that at the end of last season, only Berkman was above average in terms of walks compared to others at his position.

The other part of the problem is that while we are a great singles-hitting team, we just don't drive the ball enough which may surprise you with names like Berkman, Lee, etc... but it's fact. Our slugging is around league average only because of all the singles we hit. If you take out the singles to look at isolated power only, we are well below average.

In essence, we're a relatively soft hitting team that lacks patience (not enough walks).

they don't get a lot of extra base hits, if you watch this team that's not surprising.

    21 in Doubles
    25 in Home runs
    19 in Total bases
3 in triples though, and that can be attributed to one of the best lead off guys in the league

I'd be happy if we give up only a run here...

Its not looking good but I know the Nationals have a BAD pitching staff so this one is certainly not over! Paulino is going 4 innings so he better produce goose eggs!

I didn't realize how many HRs Paulino had given up compared to IP.

    10 HRs in 53 IP. That's very Backe-ish.

Paulino's last game in SF was pretty bad I sense a Wandy home/road split thing happening with Felipe...On the Road he is BAD at home he does pretty well I believe or atleast his last start at home was dominant.

Felipe, you're not pitching like Coop's kind of pitcher!
