That's one of those that can come back to bite you. Would have been nice if Pence could have gotten on so they could have pulled Lee for Bourgeios instead.
We've faced a couple of pitchers with ERAs in the 2s over the last couple of games and CJ is also due for some regression with his BABIP. He made pretty good contact on about 5 or 6 balls yesterday and the day before that went right to the defense. That's part of the regression. There is a significant element of luck on balls put in play and the numbers pointed to CJ having an unusual amount of luck up to this point.
Yea, Sanchez hit that deep. I think it was more a factor of making nearly perfect contact. 4 well hit balls in that inning but only 1 hit to show for it. Did you see Sanchez' first defensive play on Reyes? He barely beat him on what should have been a routine play. Those are the kinds of plays that get sketchy for him. There wasn't even a range factor there. It was just a slow release and throw.
You know the funny thing about Sanchez, to me, is that he looks smooth and kind of hot dogish but he is SLOW. You've mentioned it before, for his size and frame, you'd think he'd be faster or at least more mobile but the guy is just not quick.
Sanchez fail on an easy catch for what would've been the 3rd out on a CS. That is not something I expected from him. No harm done in the end as Norris induces the pop-up on the next pitch.
This much is certain: Sanchez needs to be nearly flawless on plays in range and plays like the one that just went down to make up for his lack of range. I haven't checked the stats but I think it's a virtual guarantee that he won't be making many plus, out-of-zone plays. He needs to be a machine on plays that are in the zone and avoid silly errors like the one that just happened.
David Wright is just an excellent 3rd baseman. I remember earlier in the year listen to WFAN and just amazed how many Met fans wanted to trade him because he wasn't a "leader".
I was seeing a show a few weeks ago saying how the Mets should let Reyes go and to trade Wright if its reasonable for the Mets. If both of those guys were anywhere else but NY everyone would be talking about them. Both of those guys are top 5 players in their positions
I'm sorry. Sanchez' lack of range and arm is driving me crazy. He's cost us runs left and right in the last 2 games.
