I am following on gamecast so I don't know if Lee has gotten good wood but dam Caballo is STRUGGLING. I don't recall, without looking at the stats, him having this bad a start.
Weak sauce from Lee and Pence. There were some people saying that Lee is better than Berkman over the past couple of years. What makes Berkman such a better hitter is that even during the deepest slumps of his career, he was still getting on base and helping the team score runs. Lee has a good eye but, in Tejada fashion, prefers to go after pitches way off the plate. The difference is that I believe that Lee has a better eye and the patience to draw more walks but developed the bad habit of being too aggressive outside of the zone. As an RBI guy, it's somewhat understandable but I still think that he could stand to lay off a few more pitches deeper in counts.
Carlos Lee should have gotten his eyes checked this offseason instead of dealing with his cattle so much.
eh, i'm not saying lee is a better hitter than berkman, but it's easy to pile on him now. i'd imagine this is the worst slump of his career...certainly the worst since he's been here (if not his only prolonged one).
Just so happens, we owe the guy 55.5 million over the next three years after paying him 18.5 million last year. These next three years will be magnified more than the previous three, just because of Tim Poopura backloading the deal.
All around Puma no doubt but as a hitter Lee has had very few slumps and extermly consistent and when Puma struggles HE STRUGGLES. Saying that I would go with Puma if I had to choose.
I was saying the exact same thing when Lee was in the midst of the best stretch of his career and Berkman was in a severe slump. I am absolutely sure that this stretch will be a distant memory in a few months. Lee is as consistent as they come at this level. This is just an anomaly. Having said that, he has never been the total package like Berkman. Lance is among the best hitters in the history of baseball. Look where Berkman ranks in career OPS: http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/onbase_plus_slugging_career.shtml Look at some of the names below him. He's second to only Mantle for switch hitters. Lee is also a very, very good hitter but look where he falls on that list.
I know I am about to jinx this but I have to give Wade props for Myers. Like Brooks said earlier, dude it tough and doesn't seem to get rattled.
like i said, i don't disagree, i'm just saying, since he's been an astro, he has been in probably the top 5 most consistent hitters that i've seen wear the uniform (alou and jeff kent come to mind from past 15 years). funny thing is, i was saying before the season that the guy was immune to slumps...maybe i jinxed him.
Before Lee's 2008 season, Berkman's worst offensive season was better than Lee's best one. That is insane because Lee is a great hitter. Berkman is just that much better. As it stands, Lee has had exactly one season with an OPS over .900. Berkman only has one season with an OPS under .900 and it was by only 4 points. Talk about elite.
The only thing more consistent about Lee is that he is consistently very good while Berkman fluctuates between super elite and very good. Berkman's ability to get on base always has and always will separate them. Even purely as a slugger, Berkman is significantly better (.555 career SLG% to Lee's .500).
It's okay dude. Myers gives up the long ball. Not your fault. Lance seems to be running nicely, but he should not hurt himself. Extra Base Hits Lee: 1 Berkman: 1
