Three. 1B, DH, and bench. Only need 1 backup IF, one backup OF, and 1 backup C. Not ideal, but Dusty doesn't really use flexibility.
Bad Ump, worse ab Yeah he was never a speed demon but he has slowed significantly over the past 4 years
I'm convinced more than ever that Astros fans would ridicule a prime Pujols if he played first base here.
Abreu, Yordan and Diaz are your "when not in field" DH, plus rest/DH days for other guys. Where is this magical playing time come from? I'm still trying to figure out how Singleton helps the Astros until the rosters expand a bit (don't they still expand a bit?)
Let's go, Maton. Man, he gave us a career year, and then there were still three months left in the season. We had a lot of people get tired arms last month, I'm really pleasantly surprised with how they're coming back.
I'm thinking its about maximizing flexibility for the future. We don't need it right now, but maybe how it relates to offseason signings or even their potential value in offseason trades. I don't think it is about the current 40-man spots or this years Rule 5 (I think Tamarez & Corona are only top-30 MLB.com prospects we have that are eligible not on the 40-man). Edit: Saving their option years is also of value, especially if they see them as backups for the future.
