They like Berkman at 1st (especially now that he has a gimpy hamstring); they think it keeps him in the game mentally more than LF. Could happen down the road though.
Lane is not getting the job done. Walks are nice but they don't drive in runs. He is hitting .111 with RISP. Lane has a decent OPS but Lamb is killing the ball right now. Going back to last postseason, he has been great. Remember last year when Garner benched Lane for Palmerio and then Lane started hitting well. I can't believe Lane is 29 years old. I thought he was like 25-26 years old. Damn the Astros sure bring in there prospects very slowly but can complain since they have had some success.
Very true. He's streaky as hell, has been his whole pro career. He turned it around last year after his pathetic May, here's hoping he gets hot soon.
He looked good but really no pressure today. Game was 10-1 and its real easy to pitch in these kind of games. He threw one perfect inning with 10 pitches, 8 strikes and a strikeout. I'd like to see him do that in a pressure situation.
That's good. The hope is after pitching successfully in situations without pressure, he will be effective back in pressure situations. We'll see if it works, but I'd still give him a few more outings without the pressure. I agree, I think Lane will come around. Wilson seems to have turned it around despite the fact he's still striking out a lot.
The guy simply needs to get used to throwing strikes from the windup again... thus, Garner is going to get him plenty of opportunities to work on just that. Once his mechanics are consistent/sound enough in the low-pressure situations, they will then transition him to the higher pressure ones. His tinkering (going back to the windup, working on his release point) is much easier to do when the game is not on the line, thus he's going to have to succeed in these situations, even if they may seem meaningless to some people.
that was t-mac sitting behind homeplate right? i remember his little girl was sitting on his lap playing with a twenty...
Lane's walks might not drive in runs, but they lead to runs scored. Personally, I'd move him up in front of Wilson, which might make them pitch a bit more to Lane and would take better advantage of his new-found plate discipline.
there is no Astro player who frustrates me more than Jason Lane. it's been that way for as long as he's been up with the 'stros. he's drawing walks...and yet i still question his plate discipline. he seems completely incapable of driving in runs. he drives me nuts.
Yeah, it is almost time to cut bait with him. Wilson, Lane and Everett are all easy outs, and it is straining the rest of the club, big time. We can live with Everett because of his Defense, but there are players in the minors or on the bench that may be better than Wilson and Lane. Berkman in left, and Palmero in right with Lamb at first.......seems better to me. However, I do like Berkman at first if we can bring up Luke Scott or Jimerson. DD
Luke Scott may never be more than a AAAA player. Jimerson is a speedster who struggles with batting average and strikes out too much, with sub-20 home run power. He sounds like another James Mouton or Brian Hunter to me. I don't think realistically we're going to get much OF help this season from the minors. Hunter Pence is the guy I pencil in to our starting lineup sometime in 07.
Preston : Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come.
Yea, he looks like he'll be a stud OF. Around .330/30/90 in A ball last season. And he's tearing it up right now here in Corpus, .324/11/35 so far this season. He's easily our best hitting prospect.
