Are the giants that good or do we really suck that bad...that is the question...Horrible past couple of games... The pitching has been atrocious...
we heard it different. i heard him say that the players USED to be able to police this stuff better when umpires weren't involved.
Why do people care so much? A batter got hit. It happens all the time. Biggio gets hit something like 20-30 times a year. Why all the hate for this one? Should Barry Bonds be treated differently than everyone else? He already had two hits. They say he's not turning on inside pitches well at all. The first two pitches were sliders that were way off. But if you're trying to pitch inside, you make sure you come inside rather than getting too much plate. If he's having control problems, this is what's going to happen. Like they said, if he's just trying to hit him, why keep throwing sliders that you can't control? I suspect Springer was more interested in throwing a lot inside, but didn't really mind if he missed too far in and hit him.
i agree, just overreacting. hell , it's called a message pitch. barry can take it anyway, he's a robot and robot's don't have any feelings or emotions.
If you believe that he was trying to actually pitch to Barry, then it's not a big deal. IMO, it was fairly obvious that Springer's goal was to hit Barry. That's Bush league.
Bob Gibson and Don Drysdale are Bush leaguers then. They hit batters for lesser things. I guess we can disagree, but hitting batters is part of the game IMO. Doesn't really matter why you want to hit them just don't throw at their head.
I think Bonds was treated differently. He was hit. Another batter probably would not have been hit in that situation. IMO the question is, did Springer intentionally hit Bonds? My answer is yes. If MLB suspends Springer I will not shed any tears.
Yep, and if Springer has a history with him, then everyone will understand the why. Or the fact that he doesn't want to give up a dinger to tie the Babe to an obvious cheater is a good why too. DD
Does history justify Springer hitting Bonds every at bat? Bonds showed up Springer. Springer hit him. It was over, no? Springer did not have to hit him again. Why couldn't Springer strike out Bonds? Cause he's scaaaaared of Bonds.
Gibson and Drysdale would hit a batter if they got a HR on them their last at-bat, if they crowded the plate, or if they just looked too comfortable at the plate. Bonds was obviously killing the ball last night so I have no problem with hitting him. He was too comfortable up there. Baseball players police themselves in these cases. I fully expect Biggio to get drilled his first time up at the plate tonight, and I'm sure Biggio does also. He understands the game and will have no problem with it.
I have no problems with the HBP. IGNORE THE STEROID ISSUE FOR A MOMENT. If you can take it without the whole steroid cloud, or even the Babe Ruth cloud.. You have Player X--an arrogant (on the field and to the media) slugger. One of the best hitters of the past 3 years coming up against a relief pitcher who, in his few at-bats against him, he has homered and gotten hit. There is a history between the 2. Player X has hammered pitching all day. I see nothing wrong with him being plunked there. Pedro woulda done it. Maybe it's from a different era, but I don't care... it's like the r****ded flagrant fouls in the NBA just for a hard "playoff foul" of the 80's/90's.
Agree with all that, but if you think that players don't care *why* guys get dotted, and that the *why* has nothing to do with whether or not there's any retaliation/escalation, you're mistaken.
