As always, no PBP in the thread. If you need that try one of the game cast sites. Keep discussion to this series. I'm so happy for Wally that his family could come visit when he wasn't going to be playing. Probably won't be in the lineup tomorrow either.
Yep. And as soon as Arizona pinch hit for Miley, Mills brought Wallace in on a double switch. He batted first in the top of bottom of the inning and promptly got a single. This is ridiculous. I know Wallace hasn't hit lefties well in the past, but if he has any chance of being part of this teams future, you can't just hold him out against lefties. He has to learn how to hit them and he can't do that sitting on the bench. It's not we're in a position where wins or losses matter. Best to play him full time and sink or swim trying to figure it out. I don't think he's gotten a single AB against a lefty since he's been called back up. But guess what? He was batting .354 (1.040 OPS) against lefties in OKC! WTF Mills? If it looks like he got some things straightened out in AAA, why not see if he can translate it to the majors?
Wallace in the lineup against a lefty? That's unpossible! <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/search/?q=%23Astros"><s>#</s><b>Astros</b></a> lineup 8/18: Altuve 4, Greene 6, Pearce 3, Maxwell 7, Francisco 9, Wallace 5, Barnes 8, Snyder 2, Lyles 1 vs LHP Corbin.</p>— Clark Goble (@clark_goble) <a href="https://twitter.com/clark_goble/status/236903964451418112" data-datetime="2012-08-18T19:14:41+00:00">August 18, 2012</a></blockquote>
Like ive said before, Mills has this thing about everyone getting playing time. What that often times means is guys who need to play nearly every day dont get to to make room for others in "Mills fair share" thinking. Remember JMike? Guy got playing time over others than for no other reason than he was available and Mills was going to play him whether he was helping or not. This obviously means some more deserving and needy player is on the bench. I admire Mills heart in this thinking, but it is counter to baseball sense what he does at times.
What would happen if crane suspended season tickets in all but the premium seats for a year and made everything $5 general admission?
Brandon Barnes has just won the Jeff Luhnow Seal of Approval. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Barnes can play CF</p>— Jeff Luhnow (@jluhnow) <a href="https://twitter.com/jluhnow/status/236976966048292865" data-datetime="2012-08-19T00:04:46+00:00">August 19, 2012</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I cant find the stat, but I bet we give up more runs in the 5th and 6th than any other innings. Perhaps more than the all the other innings combined.
Of the 116 MLB pitchers who've thrown at least 100 innings this season, he has the 4th worst ERA and the 6th worst WHIP. Bud Norris isn't far behind with the 15th worst ERA and 11th worst WHIP.
Runs given up by inning this season 1 - 73 2 - 57 3 - 68 4 - 70 5 - 73 6 - 82 7 - 53 8 - 62 9 - 54 10 - 5 11 - 3 12 - 5 That was before tonight. With 9 runs in the 5th, that brings the 5th inning total up to 82. So you're right. First inning is pretty bad too though. But 9th inning is actually the worst when you factor in that out of 121 games, our opponent has only had to bat in the 9th inning 81 times (All 61 home games and only 20 out of 60 road games). Our ERA in the 9th is a little worse than our ERA in the 5th or 6th.
