Ehh I think hunter's production could be easily matched by one of the guys we have in round rock. He's basically an average right fielder in the league. It's not like he's a 100 RBI type guy. I was very impressed when he came into the league but I think he reached his ceiling the last couple of years. I would trade him easily for a younger infield prospect who can hit for a good average and get on base. Seeing as we have plenty of cheap productive outfielders in the system and no good infielders outside of Meir and maybe Clemens.
I HIGHLY doubt anyone from our AAA level could come up and give you .270-.280 and almost 30 home runs while giving you above average defense in right field. Why would you even get rid of him ? This team needs more younger players like him. He's only 27 and just in a slump. If we had anyone in AAA better than him then they would be up here.
There is absolutely no one in RR that can give you that from any position right now...though Brian Bogusevic is off to a nice start (.326 avg, 3 hr, 13 rbi, .896 OPS). If he keeps it up for another month or so, I think you have to give him a shot if Pence is still floundering.
Yea...the Lastros baseball season is over to me. So far...we have played 25 games and have two long losing streaks in that stretch of 0-8 and now 0-7. I can't even remember the last time we won a game. Gotta give them some credit, though. When they are bad, they are bloody bad. They have some decent ball in them...when they are in-between losing streaks. I'm pretty sure this club would still be losing against other teams' AAA clubs. They are down and out. Break out the tombstone. Do whatever. I'm done with this sorry excuse for a ball club. I'm not sure I'm coming back next season, either. I may convert to a Rangers fan. That's how hopeless I believe the situation to be. The only thing I'm interested in is how far down the home attendance declines to. I say hit Drayton where it hurts. At least someone will be hitting something.
Not a lot of history to suggest you'll find that grass to be greener! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Rangers_(baseball) The Rangers (when combined with their predecessor the Senators) hold several distinctions for playoff futility: They are one of only three current MLB franchises which have yet to appear in the World Series (the others are the Seattle Mariners and the Washington Nationals), and the oldest active MLB franchise yet to appear. They are the oldest franchise in all the four major American pro sports leagues (MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL) to have never appeared in the league's championship, as well as the only Dallas-Fort Worth area team yet to do so. They are the only current MLB franchise which has yet to win a playoff series. In their history the Rangers have won only one playoff game, on the road at Yankee Stadium in the franchise's first playoff game; they have never won a home playoff game.
Yea, I'm not sure that the Rangers are the way to go if you're jumping ship. Maybe look within the organization? Round Rock? Last place. Pass. Corpus? Last place. Pass. Lancaster? Last place. Pass. Lexington? 3rd to last in a division of 7. That's the ticket! Go buy a Jio Mier Legends jersey and pull for the Astros' top SS prospect to improve upon his .198 AVG/.594 OPS and lead the team to the Class A SAL championship!
Him and Castro have really struggled this early part of the season. The one positive is that they both draw walks.
Precisely, I was just trying to be funny. He and Castro have both shown pretty good plate discipline at every level. They lead their respective teams in BBs this season. It's way too early in their seasons and their careers to worry too much about about stuff like OPS, esp. since they both play defensive-oriented positions. Mier showed a little bit of pop at Greeneville last season in addition to the walks. My concern though is that he seems to commit a lot of errors. I don't know much about the quality of the surfaces he's playing on, which is a definite factor that should be considered when just skimming over minor league box scores, but it seemed like he was committing an error every other game last season. I know that we hear some good things about Castro's catching skills but the fact is that neither Castro or Mier were considered to be A+ defensively based on all of their early scouting reports. As far as I can recall, they both had a couple of areas that were considered pretty average, whether it be arm or footwork or whatever. Every since Ozzie Smith said a couple of nice words about Castro after coaching him for all of 2 days, it seems like people are suddenly increasing his defensive rating. Ozzie may have just been saying some nice words about the kid like he did about a lot of the players he was coaching at the WBC. He's not going to talk like a scout and be truly critical and objective when asked about a player. What I do like is that they both have good physical frames to go with what appears to be good plate discipline. They should both fill out and add a little more pop over the years. Mier is pretty big for a SS so let's hope that doesn't end up working against him. I think I remember hearing that it wasn't outside the realm of possibility that he moves to a different position at some point.
the "only won one playoff game ever" thing is among the worst stats for any franchise in all of sports...especially when you consider the age of that franchise.
After last night's game... -The Astros have obviously still scored the least runs in the NL (73). The 2nd fewest is Pitt with 86. 3rd is Colorado with 104. -Only 5 NL teams have given up more runs than the Astros (125). -The D-backs have scored more runs than any other NL team (153). They've scored the most in all of baseball but I try not to compare across leagues. -On the other hand, only Pitt has given up more runs (175) than the the D-backs (156). Conclusion: Despite the records saying otherwise, we probably aren't as bad as Pittsburgh. How's that for a pick-me-up?
Good work there by Caballo. Made the pitcher throw a bunch of pitches then draws a walk. It worries me a little that he seemed to be overswinging with 2 strikes. That is a little unlike Lee when he's not in a slump. I guess it's only natural that he's frustrated but the last thing he needs to do right now is overswing the bat.
Fail. A leadoff 2B should lead to scoring a run more often than not, esp. when you're at the heart of your order.
Let's see if the D-backs can convert on their leadoff double. Caballo showing his speed again in LF. In other news, Lincecum is throwing a 2-hit SO with 11 Ks through 5.
Pretty good work there by Roy to get out unscathed. He did get the bottom of the order though and got a little bit of luck that the pitcher hit it right to Keppinger. Still, that's among the things that has made Oswalt a special pitcher - his ability to stay cool and work out of jams.
