Not a half bad outing for Paulino in the end. A truck load of pitches, but he only allowed 5 hits, 4 ER. Considering 3 of those runs were from 1 hit... I don't know I hope this is a small step in the right direction.

Overall, god damn do we suck right now. Wow.

Bourn should be in line for another gold glove though. There's always some good news.

Yup, another game full of great plays by Bourn.

    1 BB
1 2B on yet another oppo field hit
    1 SB
1 catch up against the wall in deep right center
1 clear cut outfield assist that got robbed by a bad call at home plate
a line drive out to 3B
another AB where he nearly beat out a throw

And I didn't even watch all of the game. And the game isn't even over yet.

    He's a walking highlight reel.

I'm absolutely shocked, shocked I tell you, that our offense couldn't do anything against a rookie pitcher in his major league debut.

Props to Mr. McLane for staying til the very end.

He usually leaves by now but I think he's expressing both his concern and his support.

Good on him to stare the beast in the eye.

That's the first step to recovery.

Bourn is the only thing that makes these bums watchable. Man they suck. Berkman might as well get ready to be a free agent next season because there is no way in hell they are picking up that 17mil option.

I blame it on Carlos :p even though most of the team is sucking or maybe this is who they are. Oswalt tomorrow, if we lose, it will be LLLL for the series and 10 L in a row. Let's hope it doesn't get to that.

Actually, Valdez was begging to give up some runs on a few occasions but our guys couldn't come up with anything.

He only gave up 5 hits but walked 3 and hit a batter.

He had a very difficult 1st and 2nd innings but we only managed 1 run over that span.

A slightly better lineup would've likely knocked him out of the game after 3 innings or so.

No quit in Michael Bourn. Another hustle hit with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th and us down by 8. Add that to my list from a few posts up.

    He's a Morey type.

Michael Bourn is the Kyle Lowry of this team.

I picked Lowry over Hayes since Lowry is more of a complete player but they both bring the heart and hustle game in and game out.

Maybe Bourn needs to give a speech in the locker room, Hayes style.

I'm glad to be stuck studying for finals because this is crap. I am as optimistic as anyone but the Stros are already wearing me down. I thought our offense would be below average but nothing like this. I rather see kids running around making mistakes then veterans embarrassing themselves.

Updated list of Bourn's accomplishments from tonight's game:

    1 BB
1 2B on yet another oppo field hit
    1 SB
1 catch leaping up against the wall in deep right center
1 clear cut outfield assist that got robbed by a bad call at home plate (see replay if possible, 100% blown call)
a line drive out to 3B
another AB where he nearly beat out a throw

Most importantly, a hustle play to scratch out a single with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th and us down by 8 runs when a lot of players would've mailed it in, or certainly not run Pete Rose style to 1st base.

Also, I didn't even watch all of the game so I may have missed a play or two.

Incredible effort from a guy that deserved to be on the right side of the decision tonight.

He's a winner in my book! *tears in my eyes*

As far as im concerned, bourn is the only untradable asset on this team. Everyone else that's highly paid and has a longer deal needs to be traded (Pence, Berkman, Roy, Wandy, Lee). I hope to god there isnt another good stretch this year that gives fans false hope and makes our owner/gm make some idiotic deal to screw us over for more years to come. Trade the good players on this team. They have once again proven that they are individually good but will never lead a team to anything meaningful like Biggio and Bagwell did. Plus most of them are getting up there in age while we waste their primes with non-contending years.

Crowd was so dead tonight. The whole game lacked any ounce of excitement at all. It was more entertaining watching the foul balls fly into the stands. I normally stay to the bitter, but I had to leave after the 6th or else I would have fallen asleep.

I agree but about the only player the team would be willing to trade that would net anything of value right now is Oswalt.

    Bingo.

But I also do not understand the notion of trading Pence (unless you get a boatload for him). He is young, will get better, and is under club control at a reasonable cost.

I'm not sure what to make of Pence anymore. He hasn't really improved in his 3+ years now. His best season was arguably his first.

On the flipside, his peripheral numbers this year actually look really good. His strikeout rate has come down dramatically thus far this season even though he's not hitting at all. In theory, this should be a positive in the long run, but we'll see. I agree that there's no reason to trade him at this point. He probably has more value plugging a hole in RF for the next several years than he does as a trade, especially if they can sign him to a relatively cheap long-term contract.

Bourn is awesome, I've been saying for the last couple seasons that he would turn into a solid MLB player, even when he struggled a lot his first year in Houston.

You know the crowd is dead when you can hear the popcorn man yelling "Popcorn" "Soda" "Cotton Candy" in the 7th inning. And to think the Rays are 18-6, went to a world series 2yrs ago, loaded with young talent but had 12,500 at a game last wk. Damn spoiled brats.
