Truth. The Orioles won tonight. We're now 1.5 games ahead of them. Wigginton with the game-winning 2-run HR, his 10th of the season. The Astros have 11 HRs this season. Wigginton hasn't even started every game. It's kind of pointless to compare across leagues but I would say that the Orioles have faced a much tougher schedule... something like 18 games against the Rays, Yankees and Red Sox.
I'd say on a yearly schedule they get owned. That division is just so rough if you aren't the Yankees/Red Sox. Luckily the Rays have done some excellent work to compete. I'm afraid it won't be long though before they go back into the dumps once they end up having to pay some of the big bucks to retain talent. But I hope the Rays remain competitive for a while.
The Astros scored 9 runs in 4 games against what has been one of the worst pitching staffs in the league so far this season. The Astros were on a 3-run per game pace coming into this series, which was on par with some of the worst starts to a season in modern baseball history, and they've actually managed to get worse.
Look on the bright side, folks. There are only 296 games left until the end of next season. By 2012, we still won't be a contender but maybe we'll have a couple of interesting young players to add to the mix. Updates on our last two 1st round picks: Castro (AAA): .211 AVG/.603 OPS/2 XBH (2 doubles) in 21 games Mier (A): .210 AVG/.595 OPS/7 errors in 28 games Okay, there are only 458 games until the end of the 2012 season. By 2013, we should have a few good young prospects ready to make the jump.
Our offense ranks dead last in almost every category. The only reason we don't have the worst team BA is Michael Bourn.
What about Keppinger!? He's batting better than Lee, Berkman and Pence put together. Kepp is bating .259 witch Berkman wishes he was batting right now.
I've been lucky enough to have been to busy to watch many innings over the last few weeks but that is about to change, DAM. Wandy needs to get his act together so his value can sky rocket, considering he is left handed, under club control and pretty cheap he should be an attractive trade piece come July 31st.
Hell, Kelly Johnson hit his 10th in this game. How many of us wanted the Astros to go after this guy after the Braves DFAed him? He would be our best player right now.
