OMG...thank you Qualls you just wasted a great start by Clemens and an otherwise great game overall. Jeez It's always something with this team.
So....umm... So much for this being one of my most favorite games of the season. (good base running, squeez play, and fundamentals). After that trash Qualls brought to the mound. Ugh.
Its amazing how you can go wow this game is over and 5 seconds later the game is tied. In basketball its either a blowout or a last minute shot.
Qualls has actually had MORE utter meltdowns than Lidge over the last two years... and his only breif stretch of dominance was the 2005 NLCS (whereas Lidge has had some meltodwns, but at least he was dominant for a year and a half).
I turned the station when the inning started after reading this post, I turned it back and the game was tied and I thought about this post. the astros can never have everything working this season together in one game.
It's what makes baseball so exciting. The game can drastically change with one swing of the bat. This would be such a dagger to the heart if they lose this now.
Which is why its crazy to throw all our young guys in one basket and give them away for rental players... sometimes, just as our runs of success were improbable the last two years, the reverse happens and it never comes together.
Yeah when Qualls, Wheeler and Lidge would close the door in the 7th, 8th and 9th. And thank you Everett for a nice play to end the inning. Bats need to go back to work.
Roger just can't catch a break. One day we can't score a run for him, the next we can't hold a lead. If it ain't one thing it's another. UGH.
Qualls flat out suck!! Those stat of him playing good lately are bull****, if you look them carefully you can see that.
they scored 4 runs in like 30 seconds. un-freaking-real. honestly i pictured this coming the second they took clemens out, one of those games where we wrapped it up before we wrapped it up. hopefully we can pull it out because with the reds losing, you have to take advantage.
This inning is just another example of how this year's team is filled with guys who just haven't done "their job". Sometimes that can be masked by other guys doing their job very well (Berkman, Oswalt, Clemens, Wheeler)... but then again sometimes, you can't. You don't need miraculous winning streaks, or fluke luck to win baseball games (like the last two years teams ended up having)... but you do need to have guys who can be counted on to protect 4 run leads in the 8th inning, or not hit under .200 for 2 months of a season. I can guarantee you that before this year, nobody was expecting Ensberg, Lane, Pettite, Qualls AND Lidge to all be circling the drain at some point or another this year (and be virtually unuseable at certain times).... if you get merely average production out of all those guys, this team would be in contention for the division.
