You should take an old transistor radio and put the game on in the dugout for the little fellas. Sweep.
i lost my eye glasses, my jersey, was suspended, don't feel well and don't have any good knock knock jokes, so I won't make it to the game tonight.
Pudge is the all time leader in GIDP, strikes out a lot, and doesn't draw walks. He's an awful fit in the 2 hole.
I like the previous lineup that was posted, only I'd switch Pence and Pudge.... Matsui Pence Berkman Lee Tejada Pudge Blum Bourn Oswalt Edit...basically echoing what was posted above me...
When I was in school in San Marcos, I seem to remember being able to watch all the FSSW games although they got preempted by Spurs games during basketball season.
I don't know who you're lobbying for in place of Pudge.. but clearly it wouldn't be Bourn at this point. I assume you want Pence. If so.. Pudge career OBP: .339 last yr OBP: .319 last yr OBP with DET (before new team/part-time playing situation/etc.): .338 GIDP per ~600 ABs: 20 "a lot of K's" K's per ~600 ABs: 92 he doesn't walk a lot like you said, but at least that OBP isn't terrible in comparison.. Pence: '07 OBP: .360 '08 OBP: .318 GIDP per ~600 ABs: 15 (both years) K's per ~600 ABs: 134 (both years) walks at a very similar rate to Pudge (both years) Now that Pudge is older, Pence does have a clear advantage in the slugging department. But unless we're getting the '07 version of Pence and not the '08 version... I don't know why you'd say Pudge is a terrible fit for the 2 hole. And I don't think Blum or Keppinger really have an argument. The only thing I could see working better might be Tejada in the 2 spot, Pence in the 5, and Pudge 6...but that's only if last year was an anomaly for Tejada
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLL. First winless baseball team in history.
this is a brilliant post! (but since one of the other coaches is out tonight, you HAVE to be there!!!!!)
Because he's simply not a good fit in the 2 hole for the reasons you mentioned above. That being said, Pence is worse. In the 2 hole you want someone who puts the ball in play, gets on base and has good speed. You also want him to take a few pitches to give your lead off man a chance to steal a base or two. Pudge doesn't meet any of those criteria and the only one Pence has is speed. Matsui is the best candidate for the 2 spot on the team. Best case scenario is the light clicks for Bourn, he becomes the lead off man, Matsui moves to the 2 hole and Pudge and Pence hit lower in the order where they belong.
well sure, Matsui would be solid as a 2 hitter. But we can't assume Bourn is a leadoff man right now.. when you shot down Pudge as the 2 man in the opening day lineup, I assumed you were saying you had a better candidate right now. would you agree that, given the options, Pudge is probably the best man for the job until we acquire someone, Tejada becomes the Baltimore Tejada, Pence becomes the' 07 Pence, or Bourn becomes a .350+ OBP man?
Roof better be open. With downright fridgid temps in the 50's tonight they're probably thinking about having it closed.
Probably, but that still doesn't mean he's a good fit in that spot. Which is exactly what I said in my first post.
About to go meet up with my brother and old man for our annual Opening Day date. Can't wait, go stros!
