Everett received an injection in his back a few days ago and should be back for today's game. He had the same thing during spring training He will start when healthy.

I'm sure the Stros sent him to a doctor, had Xrays & an MRI, and gave him an epidural/cortizone shot all to fix his broken emotion bone.

    Unbelievable.

I'm pretty surprised by Bruntlett's work at SS. Over the past couple of years, I'd seen nothing to indicate he'd be as shaky as he has been; I knew he wasn't AE quality, but he's been disappointing. Still a great utility guy though.

PS...I loooooove Burke starting in center & batting 2nd. And apparently Willy has a bit of a 'tude problem these days, to go along with his poor performance on the field.

yeah, i hear ya. the difference between bruntlett and AE defenisvely is even more pronounced than i thought.

i do too. burke is a nice addition to the everyday lineup. what are willy's 'tude problems? my son will be very disappointed to hear that! :)

For those who didn't see, Chris Sampson booted a routine tapper down the first base line. It was a slightly difficult play for him, but one that most pitchers still make. And even if he hadn't made it, Berkman would've had plenty of time to take it and step on first. Yet, somehow, the official scorekeeper rules it a hit and the no-hit bid is gone.

I know it likely would've been gone anyway at some point... but it's really cheap to see it go over a play like that. That was an error all the way.

Can't the scorerkeeper reverse it if he believes he was wrong?

weird... I looked at the yahoo boxscore and it said Lane had just hit a homerun and the score was 2-0...

i turned on espn and its a 1-0 game, I went back to the boxscore and they erased the homerun...

    anyone else see this
    ?

At first they called it fair then the cubs complained and the umps reversed it.

He can, and hopefully he will. But he hasn't done it yet. I'm just dumbfounded. It was a routine play that we see pitchers make almost every outing. Sampson just booted it. If that's not an error, I'm not sure what is.

As for the Lane home run, it was down the line and initially ruled a homer but then changed to foul. Judging from the TV replay it probably was foul, but the frustrating thing is that the umps clearly didn't see it as foul. They only changed it after Dusty Baker and the Cubs' bench whined and whined and then they "conferred" and changed the call, much like Oswalt's balk a couple of weeks ago in Washington.

It was probably the right call, so I'm not too upset... I just wish the umps could make the call themselves instead of making it because the other team whines and pressures them into it.

Sampson's play was a blatant error, no idea what the scorer is thinking.

    Lane's bomb was foul.

Well, I feel a little better about it now that Sampson gave up another hit and it wasn't the difference in a potential no-hitter. Of course, that's only if Sampson gets out of this inning.

Sampson's at 86 pitches, the 8-9-1 hitters are due up. Usually, I'd say great first big league start and hand the ball over, but I'd be tempted to at least let him start the 8th inning since those hitters can't really hurt you with one swing and have Qualls ready to go at first sign of trouble.

Disagree, because it's a one run game.

His pitch count is irrelevant. Kid's making his 1st start - crazy emotion/adrenaline, probably didn't sleep that well last night - and he looked pretty gassed in the 7th, plus the cubbies were starting to get some good swings on him.
