Sure. All I'm saying is that the balls that get past the CF tend to be game breakers, versus balls hit past SS.
Just to be clear in the last 7 games Bruntlett is batting about the same as Everett .211 He is still hitting around .290 for the season though As long as he hits above .260, I am fine with him playing over AE. DD
Batting. Average. Is. A. Poor. Measure. Of. Offensive. Production. How many more times does it need to be said? Everett's defense is absolutely vital to the success of this team. I expect to see him back as soon as he's fully healthy.
I've missed games like this It'll be good to see what Chris Sampson has got for us tomorrow afternoon. Great job by Wandy tonight.
Completely erroneous in every way possible. Shortstop is by far the most important position defensively.
If Garner's getting Willy in there for CF defense, and Burke to take Biggio's spot at 2B, Everett should be in there for Bruntlett as well... Barrett's slow-roller up the middle is a play that Adam has made countless times. EDIT: baserunner cost us the shutout... and Mabry obviously still remembers the Cardinals' scouting report on Lidge.
You mean Garner's not choosing Bruntlett over him, and benching Adam, and making Eric the new full-time shortstop?!? That will be a blow to some of the new "Bruntlett Backers" in here...
Exactly. They said he got some kind of shot for his back yesterday (?) and could have been available today, but it was sketchy. I assume they probably don't want to bring him in for an inning after sitting on the bench all night... but I imagine we'll see him back in the lineup sometime this week.
Sounds good... and now prepare for a full 2 more pages of this thread devoted to nothing but how stupid the organization is for putting Everett out there over Bruntlett. Bruntlett is the new Boki.
Catcher is a position of greater scarcity. Not quite the same thing. I'm not 100% sure, I'd have to look for supporting articles, but I think the defensive impact of the shortstop is still higher. Of course that doesn't include the impact on the pitchers of having a reliable catcher, or of a catcher who calls good games.
Once the pitcher releases the ball, he's just a fielder like anybody else; kinda like wild pitches can result in earned runs, but passed balls do not. Agreed that it's annoying when misjudged balls get scored as hits, though. Great game tonight. Sat front row right over the bullpen, very interesting to see the guys interact & their warmup routines & whatnot. Qualls was freaking pumped before he came in...chugged half a bottle of water, spiked it, said "it's on" and sprinted to the mound. Pettitte spent a couple of innings alone talking to Sampson on one end of the pen. Barzilla & Sampson are tiny. Especially sitting next to Pettitte, Lidge, Qualls, Springer & Wheeler.
My boss pulled down some awesome tickets and I got to sit in the diamond club about 2 rows behind Uncle Drayton's seats (although he was not there tonight). My wife DVRd it and I'm on TV pretty much every pitch all night. Awesome. All the food and drinks you could want, awesome "club" experience. I never knew how awesome behind home plate was. I always liked the field boxes around the dugout. Those pitchers are NASTY from that angle. Marmol's stuff was SCARY from behind home that close. I can see why some of the batters were falling off the plate on those curves. That was probably a once in a lifetime experience. I'm ruined for every future baesball game ever. Kind of like when my Dad used to be able to get floor tickets to the Rockets from his suppliers. Ruined me for every game since from the stands. $325 a ticket for a Stros game is pretty steep though. I guess that pays for the parking next to the building and the food and service, but jeez.
